A Reincarnator's Story: He Can't Resist Basketball's Charm!?

Even though life wasn't all sunshine and rainbow, a man who hailed from the Philippines continued living and hoping. Even while wearing tattered clothes and shoes, he still persistently practiced, carrying the hope that he will one day get a little more skillful at the sport he loves. Unfortunately, this was all but wishful thinking. Not to mention the fact that he is severely lacking in the height department, he also don't have any notable talent in basketball, whatsoever. No matter how much time he dedicated to his practice sessions, he could only reach the average skill level of a streetballer in the Philippines. He couldn't even hold a candle to those random thugs you can find on the streets, much less fulfill his dream of one day becoming a professional player. One day, through layer upon layers of dreadful coincidences, he found himself waking up inside an unknown room — talking to someone who identified themselves as a part of a civilization much higher than a Type 6 civilization on the Kardashev Scale. How high are 'they', exactly? No one really knows. Due to an unforseen war that happened between Type 6 civilizations —civilizations who can, with relative ease, create and destroy universes or even a multiverse — an error occurred. It just so happens that the man was smack dab in the middle of where all the lightning strikes and literal lightning balls rained down after passing through the spatio-temporal reality that the mysterious entity 'created'. It even destroyed a fabric of the spatio-temporal reality in the process. 「As this was all due to a deviation on our otherwise omniscient calculations, we will grant you the wish that you so wanted as 'compensation' .」 Without any forewarning, the man was whisked away from the unknown space and was abruptly sent to who knows where. The only saving grace was the fact that he received a package as a 'bonus'. "I embraced something but it wasn't a woman but death!" "Why are all of these people so extraordinary when it came to basketball? Granted, this is basketball universe, but still…" Follow Seiji as he embarks on his basketball journey, meeting new adversaries and friends alike. ※・※・※・※ DISCLAIMER! I do not own any of the anime/manga/light novel characters that will be portrayed in this fanfiction. This is just a book that I made for my own satisfaction.

Sports Trainer And Kuzutora

When Seiji left to prepare for his travel to the Aida Sports Facility, he missed out on a very small detail that the commentators mentioned after he left.

Commentator A: There was more to that move than meets the eye, right?

Commentator B: That's right. On the surface, it just looks like Paul fooled Holiday into thinking that he was really going for that drive to that basket and blow by his defender. However, what we really wouldn't notice if we didn't know Paul and his ability already is that… You know… The transition between the moves was too smooth as if he already knew what the defender will do in response to his initial move.

Commentator A: Yep~, normally, people would have that small window on where they will have to think what move they will have to execute on the fly. And that's… eehh… it's really hard to do. Yes, you can think ahead and get a good read at what the defender will do in response to you and then go from there before attacking but that usually comes with experience. Also, you can't usually plan ahead your move or two and that's by normal standards.

Commentator B: Definitely. And, as you mentioned partner, experience is something that Paul is lacking. This is the first time that he ever played on the IBA and the level of players here are way WAAAAY above those who he squared off during his college basketball stint.

Commentator A: It's definitely his eyes that gave him the extra info he needed in order to make that offensive play happen.

Commentator B: Yep. It's definitely those eyes…

As the commentators were saying that, the camera suddenly change and showed an action replay. In a particular angle, there is a shot where you can barely see Paul's eyes glimmer ever so slightly.

Mia, who witnessed all of this as she was waiting for Seiji to get ready, couldn't help but mutter to herself.

"It's Balor's View. An ability that is better equipped than Belial's Eye when it comes to one on one situations. So, this Paul is one of its users? His eye and his play style definitely fit each other perfectly. With an eye like that, he can even crush the users of the more playmaker centric Belial's Eye."

She then went into deep thought before whispering, "I wonder why master and madam allowed young master to dive into this turbulent world of basketball. Did they see something in him other than being smarter than other kids?"

As she once again sank into deep thought, Mia didn't notice the time pass by. Seiji had to call out to her just to wake her up from her reverie. When he got back after getting ready to leave, he saw Mia staring at nothing in particular. This is definitely uncharacteristic of her so, after turning off the television, Seiji called out to her while tapping her arms.

"You okay Mia?"

This action immediately woke up Mia from her reverie.

"I'm okay Seiji-kun. Shall we go?"

※・※・※・※

After a few months of moving away from Tokyo to Nara, Seiji and Mia set their foot at the lands of Tokyo once again. The reason? They're on their way to the sports trainer who will be making a training menu dedicated to Seiji.

The time of travel was definitely long so, as the child that he is, Seiji took some much needed naps in between stops. Mia didn't wake him up as she knew that this child was just too hardworking for someone his age. If anything, it's a relief for her to see him like this.

A few more minutes of driving finally took them to a pretty large establishment. When the both of them alighted the car and entered through the entrance of the establishment, Seiji and Mia saw a middle aged man with light brown hair and a slightly darker eyebrow. His face is starting to show some wrinkles while he sports a trimmed beard.

Seeing the two approach, the middle aged man casually raised one of his hands to say hi and then proceeded with business, addressing Mia at first.

"Yo, is this the boy you're talking about? To be honest, he's still quite young."

Mia nodded her head in affirmation before saying, "Yes. However, he's been doing some training by himself and found that he is no longer making progress. That's why we're here."

The man was slightly interested at what Mia said so he looked at Seiji and asked, "You're doing some training yourself boy? What kinds of training?"

"I trained both of my hands by myself to be ambidextrous, what my dominant hand can do, my other hand can do as well. I joined my mom in her daily meditations and yoga exercises. I copied my dad's practice of playing chess, sudoku, and other puzzle games to sharpen my mind. Then, I joined my little sister in her gymnastics classes."

The man was slightly taken aback at what he heard. He definitely never heard of a kid doing so many things at such a young age. When he looked at Mia for confirmation, he was even more amazed at what he heard.

"That's right. When he is still living in the mansion, Seiji-kun took music classes and learned to play the piano, guitar, and violin at a masterful degree while he also advanced in his studies to about a high school level during the span of three to four years."

"O-Oh… so this little guy is multi talented huh? Doesn't he get bored not having anything interesting to read about or something? Gifted people like him usually fall because of that," the man said with a serious look on his face. He's not a psychiatrist but he definitely know and saw some instances like this.

These kinds of people loves challenge, learning about new things in this world and they also learn faster than others. Due to these traits, if not surrounded with the appropriate learning environment, these type of kids would eventually get bored of things around them until something managed to pique their interests.

Instead of hearing an answer from Mia, it was Seiji himself who answered the man who will be his sports trainer, Aida Kagetora.

"Nope, not at all. Everything is so interesting that I don't get bored at all. Also, if you're talking about challenge, isn't there a really great challenge waiting for me on the court?"

Once again, this kid gave Kagetora a surprise. Of course, how could he forget about the sports that everyone loves in this world. With so many arrays of talents, gifted people like this kid would surely be curious about this sport.

While smiling wryly to himself, Kagetora nodded his head. He said, "Of course. How could I forget about that game…" all the while leading Seiji and Mia to a gym.

After coming through the entrance of the gym, Kagetora's footsteps came to a halt before shouting at someone who is standing near a treadmill while holding a notepad and a pen in her hands.

"Riko-swaaan~ papa brought a new customer~! Would you like to see papa work more!?"

This time, it was Seiji and Mia's turn to get taken aback. His previous serious demeanor and the maiden-in-love-like demeanor right now is a huge contrast. He's even swinging his hips in a pretty disgusting way while shouting like so.

This caused even the usually calm Seiji to sport an irked expression and a dead fish-like eyes while looking at the currently disgusting uncle in front of him. It's like he's looking at a dead person as he continued to watch this phedophile(?) attract the attention of a little girl from the other end of the gym.

When the little girl heard Kuzutora's(Trashtora's) voice, the girl faced the direction where the voice came from, showing her pink T-shirt with a head of a brown bear and the word "Kuma" written on top of the chibi-like head illustration of the bear. She also wore a white pleaded skirt while she wore a pair of white socks with a pink heart shaped design on one corner and a pink colored pair of sneakers.

Her mid-length caramel colored hair slightly swayed while her brown eyes ignored Kuzutora, locking her gaze at Mia and Seiji who's standing just behind him. She heard Kuzutora's call but, at her tender age of 8, she already learned how to pretend like she didn't know someone.

Approaching the two, the little girl first introduced herself as the disgusting pedo uncle's daughter.

"I'm Aida Riko, hello! Please ignore this uncle right there. He's just having his daily episode of doing disgusting things. We'll have to wait for him to calm down before we can start the session. Come, follow me first."

Riko tried to act as demure as she can while speaking to and leading Mia and Seiji to an empty bench. They made small talk while Kagetora followed their backs with his eyes nearly turning into heart shapes.

When they were slightly further away from him, his expression turned serious immediately.

"Riko still couldn't see it yet but that little guy… Just by seeing the visible parts of his body, I could tell that this little guy's potential is nothing like what I ever saw before. What an absolute monster."

To be continued…

[A/N¹: I'm not sure if the Aida Sports Gym is definitely at Tokyo but I've seen some of the animation frames and noticed that there are some Skyscraper on the background. So, I took a shot blindly and guessed that the gym is in Tokyo.]

[A/N²: There are studies that explains why 'gifted' people lose interest in things or etc. Also, I've met people who are like that and boy oh boy were they lazy and half-assed. They never did their assignments and they never crammed for exams but still manages to get the highest scores among our class. It's ridiculous really. I even met someone who would sleep during a class and then nearly perfect the final exams like it was all something so easy. If you try to ask them some hard question in your opinion, they'll look at you like you're someone stupid and tell you that it wasn't even a hard question, casually solving it in front of you. "Piece of cake, right?"]

[A/N³: Alright, here's the thing. If you guys have read the introduction, one of the auxiliary chapters of this fanfiction, I've said a couple of times that I'm not entirely familiar with basketball. I know those pretty common terms like 'rebound' and such but I've never really delved too deep into this topic. I do like basketball but I'm not a 'super fan' of this sport. I would never go into the most intricate details regarding such things. Well, too bad that when I decide to write about something, I atleast need to know more about it in order to write things about it, right? So, I went to YouTube, Google, and pretty much all the things I have access on to gather more information about basketball. I know it's not gonna be much since it's all just crammed knowledge but it's still something.]

[A/N⁴: Another thing I'd like to talk about is about the abilities and such. To all of you basketball fans who's reading this, I'd like to once again ask for you guy's input on this. I will be adding people who already 'have' a specific skillset that would fit into this world but I'll also be adding other players who don't. Thus, I'll be needing something that could be used. Maybe a mind-reading skill or something where the player can read even the nerve signals before they could even go to the opponents brain or something. You know, something ridiculous that's bordering OP and supernatural or something. Not something ridiculous like teleporting the ball or something though. It would be a great help. Thank you in advance.]
