Soul Study

So began the relentless work to test the limits of the souls of Jakub, Emily, Light and Nicole. The four of them had to test the limits of what they could do so that the doctor had a point to start with. He asked them to accompany him in the basement of his building where he had the proper tools for teaching. Dr.Reinheart asked Amaya to close the place down and join them also, to take notes.

Emily focused intently on summoning her wings to her back, dawning the phrase Phoenix whenever she did so. She was still unable to fly using her wings but the doctor assured her that when trained properly she would be able to. He wanted to see how much she was able to do as of now. Calling upon Phoenix she was able to hover off the ground for about five second. Dr.Reinheart pointed toward targets on the wall. "Good, now let me see you fire the projectiles toward that target." Emily spread her arms out wide and her wings rose above her shoulders, she uttered the words "Flame Lance" and several fiery projectiles flew toward the target. Out of about twenty fired only one hit the target. Amaya sat writing everything down for the doctor to go over afterwards.

"Now from my understanding you have two abilities so far. One of the blue soul types and one of the green, Am I correct?" He asked Emily.

She nodded. "Yes sir, I'm unsure of how this healing one works. I had Nicole's for awhile but it got replaced by this one."

"Wait, you had Nicole's ability? So there goes my thought of only being able to take a recently deceased being's soul." He responded

Emily thought to herself that she couldn't tell him when and where she acquired this new soul, so she didn't speak up about it. "I'm willing to cut myself somewhere to test it though, I guess."

"Here." The doctor handed her a scalpel from the counter behind him.

Emily took the scalpel and sat in a chair next to where everyone else was sitting to watch her tests. She pulled her pant leg up revealing scars on her thigh. They stared at the scars but no one dared to ask about them. Emily talked in her head so her Grim could hear her. "Don't shield me from this." She cut her leg with the scalpel right under the other scars but the new cut closed within seconds. Her body quickly flashed a green aura and then the cut vanished, Instantly healing itself.

"Amazing… I've only ever heard of rapid regeneration like this, but what I heard is it took minutes to heal, it's taking you seconds." Dr.Reinheart said in awe.

Emily was in shock that she could heal herself instantly without trying to do it herself. "When I used Nicole's healing type it didn't cause the nose bleed that she gets, nor any of the other bleeds recorded."

"It's possible the black soul is causing you to use a supercharged version of these souls. It would also make sense why your Phoenix wings are significantly larger than the only ones recorded." He replied.

"That's pretty sick to be honest. I wish I could do that." Said Jakub.

"That's amazing Emms." Nicole said happily.

Light just stared in shock just as Emily was, but Light did this because she knew that was Dregs ability. That was the soul of the man she had killed the night before. Hesitant to speak she spoke. "That is pretty cool."

Emily smiled at everyone boasting about her. "Thanks guys. Doc, those are the only abilities I have right now. Maybe you can help me find out what else this soul can do."

He nodded. "Okay, Nicole your turn. I understand you have the bleeding heal. The one that causes you to bleed as you heal another or yourself. As Emily said your nose bleeds when you heal. I want you to try and heal a wound on someone and push yourself to the limit. Who here thinks they can take a deep stab wound? Not a deadly one obviously, just one enough to stress her heal."

The group looked at each other like he had asked them something extremely ridiculous, but Jakub gave in anyway. "I'll do it."

Jakub grabbed the scalpel from Emily and sat next to Nicole. He took a deep breath in and then let it out. He then stabbed the scalpel deep into his leg through his pants.

"You could've rolled up your pants idiot." Emily told him.

"Shut up." He replied struggling to say it because of the pain.

The scalpel was pretty deep in his leg and began bleeding a lot.

"I'm pretty sure he hit his femoral artery…" Dr.Reinheart said while palming his face.

Nicole put both hands over his leg and they began glowing with the same green aura as Emily's body. "Heal." Nicole commanded.

She held her hands over the wound and could see the tissues and muscle being repaired inside. Her nose began to bleed, it was running down her face at almost a constant rate. The blood continued from both her nose and Jakub's wound. About a minute went by and the bleeding in his leg stopped. The opening of the wound began to close and seal itself shut again. Nicole's nose didn't stop bleeding until the very end and she passed out right after finishing. A few minutes went by and everyone was gathered around Nicole who was resting on Light. Nicole finally woke up and looked at everyone.

"You are much more of a capable healer than any records of people with the bleeding heal. You were able to heal what possibly could have been a mortal wound with only passing out. Now I wouldn't recommend doing that regularly maybe only once a month if that."

Nicole smiled and fell back asleep.

"Jakub I want to test you now. I've seen what Light is capable of, better yet I taught her everything about her ability. I want to see what the other unknown can do." The Doctor said.

Jakub stood up and asked what the doctor wanted him to do. Dr.Reinheart told him that he wanted to see the extent of his absorption abilities. He asked Emily if she would stand with her wings out and back toward Jakub. The doctor wanted to see if he could completely nullify her wings and use the fire for himself.

"I believe you can take soul mana from others to the point they can't tap into their ability for a little while. Soul mana is what is needed for the use of our abilities and it comes in all forms. High adrenaline can cause your mana to overflow, being well rested you'd be able to use it at any point in the day for whatever needs, and lastly the more in shape a person is the more mana they can store. I believe you steal mana from people and add it to your own amplifying the soul power." Dr.Reinheart informed Jakub.

Emily stepped backward toward Jakub and he reached his left hand toward her back. The wings stretched far wide, they were more wide than Emily was tall. The flames from the wings were being pulled toward Jakub's hand, flowing through his body into his right arm. His tattoos began glowing a fiery red and a flame formed in his right hand. Emily's wings began to grow smaller and smaller as he pulled the flames constantly into his hand. The wings disappeared, the mana was completely drained from the wings and nullified by the white souls' power. Jakub's right arm burst into flames with the tattoo still glowing brighter than the fire. He raised his right hand toward the target and reached it out. Flames like a flame thrower shot from his hand toward the target just constantly flowing out.

"You should probably stop before you burn the building down." Amaya said as she reached her hand out firing water from her hand to put out the flames.

The doctor was amazed as the fierce power behind the flames. "The power from those flames could be categorized as a red type soul. The most destructive of them all and the most rare type aside from white and black of course. Red types could cause global catastrophe in the wrong hands and the white souls' power seems to amplify the strength beyond the point of red."

Jakub finally felt like his power was something special. Emily felt the same way about her own. The two of them knew they would be capable of doing great things here and knew they would be able to deal with the reapers. The two of them led normal lives in their previous worlds but would now be seen as the only two holding the only unknown soul type in this new world.

The doctor looked at all of them. "Now that we have the assessments done, I hope you guys are ready to begin training your understanding of it all."
