A Only One Path

Kaél, a young homeless man with a tragic past, tried tirelessly to find that change that would give his life a meaning, a reason to believe that he has not lived his life in vain. He was forced to wait impotently for his already imminent last moments, with the painful feeling of uselessness as his only companion. ... Weak

Blue hair and blue eyes.

An identical copy, but older.

Light blue hair, almost silver, that untidy reaches to the shoulders.

Blue eyes that betray vicissitudes. Inexpressive, concorde to the chilling apathy they emit, a lot more than those of Kaél himself.

Dressed in a set of black pants and shoes; and a neatly white shirt, but not so much that it blends in with the surroundings.

A height that is supposed to be greater than 6 ft. and an evidently stocky body.

At first glance he looks like an experienced middle-aged man, or a little older; however, if a sharp person were to look at him, he would not be fooled by his apparent age, as his eyes betray something more.

Inside that facade, you can see an old monster, one that will have lived a very long time.

If Kaél had to say one word to describe his first impression of the man; he would, without any doubt say: Invincible.

And the crazy thing is that this first impression was the result of seeing only his side profile... From the beginning, the man has never looked at him.

With his left hand on the table, resting his head; the man, without apparent change, has kept his gaze fixed elsewhere.

All this time, his gaze has been directed towards his other hand, or, to be more precise, the fingers of his hand. Those that, with no sign of ceasing, have been constantly tapping the surface of the table.

If it were anyone else, he might be angered by the clearly disdainful attitude reflected by the man, but Kaél is not like them.

From the first moment, his instincts have been screaming at him that this man is dangerous. And, even without them, even if he had to bring his 10 years of street experience to the table, he would declare, without a doubt, that the man is no ordinary person.

Just the presence he naturally emanates already reflects authority and dominance. Not to mention his eyes, which, although they resemble Kaél's, are completely different worlds.

'¡Ridiculous!'

It is the only thought that is now going around in his head, just how absurd the current situation seems to him.

Sitting opposite is the one who, while reflecting a supremacy that would leave anyone in awe and submission, somehow unimaginable, declares himself to be him.

An orphan.... A homeless man, who has only lived to find a place, a change.

<*pa*> <*pa*>

<*pa*>

or, that was before.

Now he's just someone pathetic, who has wasted 16 years of life without accomplishing anything or changing something…

If it were other circumstances, his current situation, he would undoubtedly assume it as a bad joke. An attempt to humiliate him and play with his hopes.

An intentional mocking contrast of two polar opposites.

[Here it is possible to create everything or nothing, the only limit is the imagination] Declares the man suddenly, interrupting Kaél's thoughts.

Sensing something, he immediately looks down and looks at his clothes....

Black pants and sweatshirt; No wrinkles, rips, or dirt. Everything that should be there, is gone; Same as the first time he wore them.

Nor does he feel the usual discomfort of having mud and dirt stuck to his face. Surprising him.

In order to avoid being recognized as a kid, he always tried to hide his immature features with dirt and mud. So that only his eyes could be glimpsed behind his hair.

Ignoring a stunned Kaél, a white wooden chair suddenly appears in front of the man, and at the other end of the table. [My name is Kai] He comments in an apathetic voice, incredibly matching his appearance, or more precisely, his unperturbed expression.

After seeing the chair appear, Kaél comes to his senses, and, after a quiet sigh to calm his altered mood, slowly approaches the table and sits down.

[you already believe] Comments the man, being the first to speak.

"Yes..." Kaél answers quietly, after a few seconds.

He has always been skeptical of what other people say.

Since he first left the orphanage, he has seen all kinds of cheating. From rich to poor, old man to man, boy to woman, woman to man, and more....

Living on the street since the age of 7, he has learned to believe only what he sees and experiences.

Although he does not dare to blindly believe what Kai says, he cannot deny reality.

Hearing voices in his head, magically appearing in his 'subconscious' and seeing his older 'Self'; Kai.

But... More than believing, it is his crazy expectation that is playing a more important role, even if he doesn't want to admit it.

[You must know some things. Unfortunately, you are still weak and very young] Kai comments.

[Lack of knowledge, experience and mental maturity].

"I don't think so" Kaél immediately refutes him, in a bad mood. Accepting what Kai says, is the same as denying the only advantages he has had since he was a child....

Ignoring an annoyed Kaél, He keeps talking. [For now, I'm only going to explain the essentials, just enough for his mind to understand] And Without waiting for him to reply....

[Kid, I know you've heard about reincarnation] Kai tells him, with an unusually serious expression. [You have past lives, two exactly, and very different from the one you have now]

[In your last life, you tried to kill someone. He was a very powerful being, so much so, that he was able to split his soul and forcibly reincarnate you].

"¿Did he split my soul and reincarnate me?" Kaél asks, now puzzled. It is difficult for him to understand what it means.

[That being retained his soul, took out the memories and converted them into simple information, then divided it. One major part remained completely clean and the other remained with the information of their past lives. He then reincarnated them] (Author's note: The information from his past lives is mainly information from the five senses {Seeing, hearing, smelling, touching, tasting}, and information from sensory receptors {Pain, heat, cold, etc...}).

...

[In the reincarnation cycle, his soul went through the cleansing process, while the other part avoided the process].

Kaél seemed to pick up on something. Slowly adopting a bemused expression, as he continued to listen.

[I am his past, or at least what remains. Essentially I am the embodiment of their past lives. Just a remnant of what you were, a small part that remained of his soul]

"So I-" Interrupting what Kaél was about to say, he continues speaking.

[You are the soul that has reincarnated, and the 16 years you have lived so far, make up 'your' third life]

...

Kaél has read in the orphanage, tales and stories that he believed to be fictitious, about Gods and Immortals who have reincarnated into heroes. Child prodigies loved by people, creating incredible feats and achievements, using the memories of their past lives.

Knowing that he is one of those children surprises him.

But…

The truth of his 'reincarnation' is something completely different from what he imagined.

¿What is the difference between him 'reincarnated' and a normal person?

His soul is completely 'clean'; no memories. He does not have the one advantage or benefit that there should be in a 'reincarnate'.

Whereas, Kai is the embodiment of his past lives...

<*pa*> <*pa*>

<*pa*>

Strongly suppressing the contradictory emotions he feels. Begins to look at Kai with a wary expression.

And, as if guessing his thoughts, Kai, who even now still does not deign to see him, only replies.

[If I had any other motive, you wouldn't be here]

"¡...!"

<*¡BAAAM!*>

"¡Aagh!"

...

Without any signal, something forcefully pushes him to crash his face against the table.

An immense pressure descends and immobilizes him. As if the world was holding him back, preventing him from even moving a finger.

Also, being in his subconscious, he knows that the pressure is not restricting his body, but his soul....

Nevertheless, the pressure he feels has given him the answer he wanted.

If Kai wanted to deceive him, he would not need to cooperate. He can easily control his soul.

...

Now, in the immense blank space, only the soft and rhythmic sounds produced by the knocks on the wood resound, forming a soft melody. With Kaél, who can only be a listener, due to his position; and Kai, as the only spectator and responsible, immersed in his act, and ignoring everything else.

<*pa*> <*pa*>

<*pa*>

...

Gradually, the pressure disappears.

[You are weak] Kai declares, with a flat tone. Just as any person would when stating a basic, undeniable fact.

Kaél settles back in, and, after a few seconds, asks.

"¿What is my role in this cooperation?"

Despite the fact that, being cautious has always been his nature, he's not stupid.

He knows how useless his position is in front of Kai. If so, then you just have to give in a little.

Although he still has doubts, at least, he is now sure that in his cooperation, he is necessary. If not, he would have killed him by now.

[Survive] Kai responds.

'¿Survive? ¿To what? ¿To who-...'

It didn't take long to realize that he had forgotten something important.

The only responsible for everything…

Who reincarnated him.

Kaél feels a shudder to know that such a powerful being exists... Forcibly dividing someone's soul and reincarnating them, he has never heard of such a thing.

To think that this being could still be alive, makes him feel extremely threatened, like having a knife continuously pointed at him...

[He should be dead by now] Kai comments, guessing his thoughts.

A few minutes of complete silence passed.

"If the being who reincarnated me is already dead, ¿why-"

[You don't deserve to know] Kai replies, interrupting him.

"...So, ¿why-"

[You don't deserve to know either] Kai replies, interrupting him again.

"…"

"Why don't I deserve it?" After a few seconds, he asks again, already a bit impatient. While Kaél already has a feeling he knows the answer, he hopes he's wrong...

And, without even a second, he receives an answer.

[Because you're we-]

"¡I know!" interrupts Kaél, now annoyed.

He doesn't know how many times he's been hearing the same thing, over and over again.

He is already aware that he is weak, however, he also does not want or need anyone else to take the liberty of reminding him of it.

Yes, he is weak.

But he tried.

He really tried.

It was always his most important goal. To stop being weak, to be able to become a cultivator, and to finally change something in his life.

He started stealing for that reason: to find a way.

Unfortunately, only in the rich could he find the answer. They possessed a manual that had what he needed.

He risked his life, more than once, just to get that manual.

But it was all in vain. He discovered that another object was still missing, one that could only be found guarded by cultivators.

Without that object, by the time he reached his goal, 30 years would have passed...

"But now I'm not the only weak one, 'we are weak' ¿right? " says Kaél, sarcastically.

[Your weakness has nothing to do with me] Kai replies, with the same apathetic tone as always.

[Now you are so weak, any rapist would kidnap us. A homeless man would insult us, seeing how weak you are. Dogs would treat us as food, looking how helpless you are. Children would make fun of us, knowing you can't defend yourself. The rich and fat women would use us o-]

"¡Stop! ¡I get it!" shouts Kaél, now annoyed and ashamed.

[It's good to understand your weakness]

[That's the first step to survival].

Unfortunately, for Kaél, those words didn't ease his temper, on the contrary, they annoyed him more.

For a second, he could see a slight twitch at the corner of Kai's mouth, and he could have sworn he saw in that gesture, the hint of what appears to be a sneer…
