Ruth thought that an ugly fight was waiting at the threshold when Zoe entered Edwin's office with her eyes glinting in anger as comparable to Edwin's. They two stared at each other with such fierceness that Ruth was glad she was not at the receiving end of either of them.
But she couldn't just stand and watch it in silence. She had to do something. But what?
"What do you think you are doing?" Zoe's otherwise confident and polite voice sounded like an angry purr of a cat, ready to attack.
"Move!" Edwin ordered.
"No" She declared.
Ruth knew how much Edwin was trying to restrain himself before he did something that he would regret later. He had this bottled-up anger all this time. He was only avoiding Lester to not break the last chord that hung his patience loosely with his conscience.
But Lester hit his head on the rock willingly, and now he had to face the consequences.
