Paris

Giselle returned to Paris. She frantically knocked on Adelene and René's door.

"Giselle? What is it, mon amie?" Adelene asked.

"I can't. I can't be around Louis right now."

Her friend welcomed her into the apartment and poured her a glass pinot noir. Giselle thanked Adelene profusely.

"What happened?"

"I don't want to talk about it."

"Okay."

Giselle sighed. She wished she could go the Montpierres' family home, but they never liked her because she was ringarde. At least she had Adelene and René.

She stayed with them for a couple weeks and was minding their place while they were out for a romantic lunch when a knock happened upon the door.

"Une moment!"

Giselle got up and answered the door only to be surprised to see Constance, Louis's younger sister.

"Constance? What are you doing here."

"I just want to talk. Walk with me along the Seine?"

Warily, Giselle agreed. The pair strolled and talked about Louis.

"I know my brother has hurt you. Maybe it would be time for you to move on, no?"

Giselle stared at her and shrugged.

"Perhaps. I don't know. I've lived with Louis for so long, I don't know who I am without him."

"Hmm. Come, I want to show you the best view of Paris."

They walked towards the Eiffel Tower and were soon taking the elevator all the way up.

"What are we doing?" Giselle asked.

"Seeing the best of Paris. From the top of Le Tour Eiffel."

"Uh, okay."

At the top, they looked out over the beautiful City of Love.

"You know, my parents have found a mate for Louis. From one of the richest vampire families in the world."

Giselle remained silent. She had always asked Louis to make her his mate, but he had always refused. So she had given up trying for something that she would never have.

"Should that make me upset?" She finally asked. "I'm not his mate. Never was. If you pair him with someone, then I have no objections."

"Good. But there's one little problem."

"What?"

"You. As long as you're still around, my brother will never stop pining for you. I'm honestly not sure why he never made you his mate, but our parents are glad he didn't."

Giselle gave an involuntary shiver.

"So, what? Are you going to kill me?"

Constance didn't reply. Instead, Giselle suddenly felt a push and the next thing she knew, she was flying towards the ground. Inertia sped up the process and as she saw the hard concrete looming closer and closer, she closed her eyes and accepted her fate.
