Claire's smile shook a little, and a shadow moved across her eyes. "Well, marriage is... complicated," she said in a softer voice. "It's not always what people expect it to be."
When Adriana saw that Claire's mood had changed, she looked at her with love. "Sorry, Claire. "Sorry to bring up something painful."
Claire shook her head to get rid of the weight of her feelings. "Really, it's okay. Every marriage has its ups and downs, I guess."
Adriana paid close attention to her because she felt that Claire was hiding more than she was letting on. "For what it's worth, you seem like a strong person." Whatever you're going through, I'm sure you'll get through it."
Claire offered a small, grateful smile. "Thanks, Adriana. That means a lot."
