Chapter 16 – No

At the moment Sheila's phone turned on, it took several seconds to load. When it did, it started ringing due to the large number of pending notifications.

"Are you some kind of celebrity?" Benjamin asked mockingly.

Waiting several seconds for her phone to calm down, Sheila unlocked it.

She had several missed calls, messages from various patients, and from unknown numbers.

'How strange,' Sheila thought, as she usually saved the name of everyone who called her, always categorizing them as: patient or work, before the person's name.

Contacts that only had their name were friends or very close people.

Therefore, it was odd to have several missed calls from different unknown numbers.

Had her patients spread her number around?

Suddenly, Sheila's phone began to ring due to an incoming call.

It was Emily.

"Emily?" Sheila asked as she answered the call.

"Why haven't you been answering your phone?!" Emily yelled angrily.

"It was... out of battery," Sheila replied.

"That's why I keep telling you to change your phone! The one you have doesn't work anymore," Emily explained while shaking her head.

Because Emily spoke so loudly, it was inevitable for Benjamin to hear Sheila's call.

"Is that your evil sister?" Benjamin asked mockingly.

Before Sheila could respond, Emily clearly heard the voice of that man.

"Are you dating someone?!" Emily asked surprised.

Then, remembering how loudly she had spoken, making it very likely that the guy heard her, Emily decided to speak in a slightly lower tone. Even so, Benjamin could still hear her.

"He's just... a friend," Sheila explained while letting out a sigh.

"Friend?" Emily repeated, confused.

"Another friend besides Alfred, Julio, Adam? Or how about...?"

Emily began to recite a short list of guys Sheila had interacted with several times to the point of considering them friends, or at least acquaintances.

It was surprising that Emily remembered such details of her life, so Sheila couldn't help but stand there with her mouth slightly open while listening.

'Since when does Emily have such a good memory for these things?' Sheila thought, surprised by Emily's unexpected skill and talent.

"No... it's none of them. I've lost contact with most, but remember that all of them were more of a business matter. But you might soon meet this guy," Sheila said nonchalantly but then regretted her statement.

Emily, upon hearing that statement, was already imagining a scene in her mind.

Sheila, a beautiful lonely girl who only focused on her work, tired of everything, embarked on a journey where she met...

Wait.

Who did she meet?

How did she meet him?

But most importantly.

Where did she meet him?

And... had they met before?

Did Sheila really go on a trip to get to know a guy better?

If that wasn't showing interest, then all the romantic movies had lied to her!

Suddenly, a great concern began to invade Emily's mind. So, trying to say it as slowly and quietly as possible, she asked:

"Have you drunk... with him yet?"

"No," Sheila immediately replied.

She didn't want to tell Emily the truth.

It was embarrassing.

Emily, noticing a slight change in Sheila's tone when she denied her question, knew there was a high probability she was lying.

But considering that she was very likely near that guy and that he could hear more of this conversation...

"Okay... I know you're very responsible, organized, charismatic, meticulous, and above all, honest. I'm calling to let you know that Isabella is now working with me while still keeping her old team. I don't know what's going on in her head, but the higher-ups thought it was a good idea. Also, Dr. Lee told me to tell you to call him."

Why was Emily praising her so much out of the blue?

'Isabella...' Sheila repeated that name in her head to see if she remembered anything about that girl, but...

Nothing.

'I think I should start developing a memory-aiding medicine,' Sheila thought while wiping the sweat off her forehead.

There were so many things happening now that the only response that came to Sheila's mind was:

"Perfect. I'll call you later," Sheila said before hanging up the call.

Emily, surprised that Sheila hung up on her like that, was about to send her a message until she heard the bathroom door open abruptly.

'Oh, it seems someone is in a hurry,' Emily thought while opening the chat with Sheila.

"Miss Emily, are you here?" a very worried female voice asked.

'I don't exist... I'm using the bathroom...' Emily said in her head while lifting her legs so she wouldn't be recognized by her shoes.

The truth was she had been sitting in the ladies' bathroom for over 10 minutes, wanting to take a break after making sure all her patients were in perfect condition.

Soon, another person entered, who asked:

"Is she here?"

It was Isabella.

"No, she's not," the other girl replied.

"I'll check the dining room bathroom. You check the entrance bathrooms," Isabella said before hurriedly leaving the bathroom.

Soon, the other girl also left while Emily started sweating with guilt.

Had something happened...?

Waiting a few more seconds to leave, Emily sent a quick message to Sheila saying:
