It's just a game, isn't it?

(A/N: Trying something new)

'What the hell is happening?'

A handsome man with white skin, blue eyes and black hair wearing what looks to be formal setting silk robes with a fish scale pattern can be seen walking down orient blue stoned hallways. Judging by the scrunched up look on his face he seems to be thinking about a worrisome topic.

'Over the past week multiple settlements and towns have been destroyed and there have been no survivors or stragglers to get information from. Our scouts haven't been reporting back so they are most likely dead, but what doesn't make sense is that our bases near the sea have also gone silent.'

The man then abruptly stopped his thought as he paused for a moment to open a set of light blue doors and entered the room that contains multiple parchements and writing on a round table.

He then approached the table and turned his attention to the three other individuals that were standing around the table wearing similar clothing to the man with slight variations.

The only other man directly across from the individual was more muscular and tanned than the individual and had scars on his neck with likely more hidden under the form fitting robes he wore under his light scale armor. He had black hair and light blue eyes that seemed to be made of glass as they surrounded black pebble pupils. Conner.

The woman on his left has wavy black hair and eyes to match, with an average physique and a buttoned up long dark blue scale coat that reaches the back of her knees with black pants and a white shirt that hugged her assets. Chloe

The women on the right wore a more extravagant dark blue dress with frills that parted way at her knees to allow for more mobility and a tightly bound corset that then goes over her b-cup breasts and rests at the base of her neck. Her white sleeves also lack the regular scale pattern seen throughout the Kingdom style and just comfortably hang on her arms. The queen.

She looks like a goddess compared to the rest of the individuals within the room as she stared at the man who just entered with her silver eyes and her light blue hair styled in long ringlets at her side that shifted slightly as she moved. A small light blue crystal crown can be seen that branches three inches from the centre of her forehead

"Hello David, do you have news?" The beautiful woman asks the man who just entered the room.

"Yes your majesty, however there is a disturbing similarity to our last reports." David replied.

"Let me guess, we know that we don't know anything." Connor interjected.

The silence that followed answered his statement.

"I want you to tell me what this means." The queen then proceeded to break the silence and the other women then began to speak.

"We lost contact with multiple settlements and bases over the course of the week and most of our follow up investigations were met with silence. Which means..." The woman trailed off, fearing the meaning of her words.

"That this is most likely an attack from an outside source." Conner continued.

"This means that the residents of the town were wiped out or captured and our forces met the same kinds of fate. This is obviously a preemptive strike against us and the enemy is preventing any information leakage."

"Any idea who they could be, Chloe?" The queen asked and the other women responded with her arms crossed in front of her chest.

"Our scouts would have seen any advances from the air and we are one of the best naval armies in the world so we should have seen this coming. The fact our spies and scouts were killed speaks volumes of the opponent's ability."

"The creation of neutral grounds in the central continent has caused the relationship between nations to improve drastically, so what could have provoked this attack?" The queen posed the question to the room.

"Unfortunately my Queen." David answered in a worried tone. "Reports from our spies indicate that similar events have occurred in other nations. They have taken the same approach to hide it from the public, however the impact is too big and it will come out soon."

"So a new force is making itself known or one of the attacks in the other nations could be staged." The queen stated in a morbid voice, a voice full of dread as she realized that war will once again sweep her nation. After all, the eyes of Connor are not something one could be born with. Speaking of, the man began to speak

"What is hard to understand is the locations they chose to attack."

"How so?" David questioned in a worried frown.

"Some of the areas have no strategic values, they are far away and surrounded by unfavorable terrain and I cannot comprehend how they just seem to spread out randomly from certain areas. They didn't sweep across the continent in a wave, but instead appeared out of nowhere and spread out."

Chloe then furthered his point

"The way they attacked our settlements without us knowing and dealt with the follow up shows advanced thinking and preparations. Yet, there appears to be no solid supply lines for food aside from our own settlements."

"All in all, we need more information." The queen summarized the entire conversation.

Everyone nodded in confirmation with thousands of thoughts filling each of their heads and not knowing similar conversations were happening in the other nations as well. In these conversations were feelings of dread and despair in another war, fear of losing, and determination to survive.

If only they knew it was all pointless, that their entire civilization will be used as a wet stone against an advanced race that can easily overcome their racial abilities that they have grown reliant on. The only reason they will struggle is because a higher being will let them and only doing so for the experience and fun it would experience when doing so.

Like a game.

Your probably wondering why I keep building up the characters. The reason for that is because I want people to feel something when stuff happens and not to have the moment ruined by just breezing past character depth. I read a story like that and what was suppose to be emotional was instead "whatever". But if I'm going too strong, then let me know.
