Change of Plan

"Sorry, I don't know it will take quite a time." Levin got out of the lift and walked towards Rei.

"That's okay. You met with who?" Rei asked offhandedly.

"Some friends."

Levin lent his hand.

"Let's go."

Rei nodded and accepted his hand.

"I'm hungry. Let's go eat?" Rei suggested.

"Sure. The canteen is at the back of this building."

They walked side by side for a while.

"These buildings have so many CCTVs." Rei looked up.

"Yes, this central building, especially. Most boards' offices located in here. So, it was a given."

"Your father's too?"

Levin nodded.

"His office is in the 9th level."

"I see.. What about the beyond levels?"

"That's for the higher ups."

"Have you met them?"

Levin thought for awhile.

"I'm not sure. People who know their identity could be counted with fingers. I bet even their family don't know their real occupations."

"So, they are like a spy in disguise?"

"Quite similar."

"How sad."

They arrived in a large field covered with Japanese grass. The surface was neat. It could be seen that the grass was well cared of.

"That building across us is the canteen. Usually, the officers have their lunch in there. The cooks are good." They walked through a pavement that head to the canteen.

"What about that small building?" Rei asked while pointing to the right side of the pavement.

"That's a tape room. It is used for storing the CCTV recordings. That place usually is stranded. Sometimes the security comes there to put the piled up tapes."

Rei nodded and looked around the field.

"Security won't guarded this place as strict as the main building."

"Of course." Levin chuckled.

"Why would they wasted their energy to guard the place with no importance."

"Yes, it's comforting to hear that." Rei hummed to himself.

They walked into the canteen and met with some officers.

"It's quite at this time, since many officers are still working."

"That's better. I don't really like crowded place." Rei shrugged his shoulder.

Levin lead him to the long tables on which many chafing dishes were placed.

"Woah, we could take anything? Like 'all you can eat'?"

"What's 'all you can eat'?"

<System, there's no 'all you can eat', here? Weird, since I saw this reality quite modern.>

<Yes, host. Some features are quite different from the real world.>

"In my place, there's a restaurant in which customers could serve themselves as much food as they want." Rei explained.

"So, it is the same like this one?" Levin asked.

"Yes, quite similar."

Rei happily choose his foods. Not taking too long, he already bring three plates of main dishes, a plate of fruits, a bowl of soup, and some cookies. He put them all on their table at the back, near opened windows.

<Should save up as much as food for tonight's mission.>

<Host, what do you think you are? A camel? No, even camel could only save water on its hump.> The System looked in disbelief.

<Whatever. Just in case.>

"Can you finish all of these foods?"

"Don't underestimate me."

Rei dig in his food vigorously. Levin shook his head while holding back his laughter.

"What?" Rei asked, munching his chicken.

"Didn't you say you are full awhile before?"

"The worrying makes me hungry."

"And what is it that make you so work up?" Levin put his chin on his palm.

Rei swallowed his food.

"Suddenly brought up into police HQ would make someone trembles in fear, didn't they?"

Levin chuckled.

"I guess so."

Just as Levin opened his mouth, they heard a thunderous sound coming from the lounge. It caused commotion and many officers were gathered in the field.

"What's happened?"

Rei stopped his spoon in midair.

"You wait here. I'll go check."

Levin leaved his food untouched. Rei checked his phone.

<10.30 a.m.>

He put his phone back into his pants, then sipped his drink.

Rei elegantly wiped off his mouth.

<Let's go!>

Thanks to the commotion, he could sneak around and entered the tapes room in success. Rei celebrated in his heart.

<Who knows something like this would happen?>

<But host, didn't it feels suspicious.>

<Of course it is! However, we should take any opportunities that we got, then think about it later.>

After making sure the room was locked, he looked around. The room was really messy. The shelves were unorganized and filled to the brink. Even many tapes were piled up on the floor.

<So, can you help me checking these tapes? Try to find something related to the District X mafia, the police chief, and better if you find anything about my father.>

<I'll try.>

In a blink of eyes, a hologram was appeared in front of Rei. The hologram formed a screen with many cables, about hundreds, that were sticking out from it. Looks more like a moving tentacles. Rei stepped back in awe.

<Is this your real body?>

<I am just a program, host. This hologram is this one temporary form to help the host.>

<Then, you could shape-shifting?>

<This one not really sure. This is the first time they try this formation.>

Rei nodded, still in disbelief.

<Hey, System. Is there a chance you could retrieve the deleted recordings?>

<As long as it was recorded in the tape, I think this one could do it.>

Rei nodded his head.

<Then focused on the deleted scenes. And how will you check all of this tapes?>

<Give me a minute.>

All of the thin cables then moved into each tapes, starting from the nearest ones. The screen then showed a really fast forward video. Rei's eyes couldn't catch up. He felt dizzy and closed his eyes.

<I found something, host.>

Rei reopened his eyes and saw a paused figure on the screen. That is the X-District mafia and the police chief. They were shaking hands with smile on their faces. Some packages could be seen on the table. It looks like they were in his office.

<It would be around the time before the owner's father being jailed.> The System checked the date.

<And who stupid enough to do the transaction in their own office? Wouldn't they afraid of cameras?>

<Actually, this one has been deleted. I checked them as the host's request.>

<System, you are really cool. I like you!>

<Thank you, host. I like you, too.>

<Then, save that recording into my hard disk.>

One bigger cables appeared and touched Rei's disk. The System then transferred the data.

<Is there anything else?>

<No, the most recent ones should have been still in the security room.>

Rei thought for awhile.

<Then, about the underground club in which my father was being tricked into, is there any chance there's a CCTV there?>

<This one has no idea, host.>

<Then, another matter on hand. How could we leave this room unnoticed. There's no window in here. If I suddenly come out of this room in the day and someone accidentally saw me, won't it raise questions?>

<Then, does host have any plan?>

Rei racked his brain.

Then, suddenly a faint knock could be heard from outside. Rei also heard the one outside hummed familiar tune.

Rei smiled.
