By the time night was rolling around Mathias had already completely covered the area in status traps, not only that, but he'd also placed a few of the more lethal varieties of traps he had at his disposal.
Bartosz attempted to get them acquainted with the Witcher that'd been stationed there, but they rejected it as both Mathias and Barnock assumed the Witcher could probably sniff out their identities, or lack thereof.
Sleeping bags had been set out for the children to rest within in the middle of the courtyard, and luckily the weather was kind and hadn't started raining. The guards who're watching from the windows had been rotated with the ones in the courtyard, the courtyard being the tougher and likely more intense position to be in.
Bartosz, Barnock, and Mathias were standing next to the children while talking about experiences they'd had. The duo were surprised to hear that Bartosz had apparently fought many demons in his time, this being cause this world lacked any demons that they know of.
As Bartosz was about to explain where he'd fought them and what exactly they were, a wave of magic travelled through the area, getting Mathias and the Lord's hackles up.
Mathias looks to Bartosz, "Feel that?"
Bartosz nods and shouts, "We're under attack!"
As soon as he shouts this, screams start coming from outside the property as the earth below their feet trembles slightly at whatever is approaching them.
Mathias notes that his traps seemed to be slowly dissipating, the wave of was apparently created to nullify other magics... His traps likely wouldn't last more than five minutes under this, and he had no way of getting rid of this strange nullifying magic without expending all of his own energy. "The traps are compromised! Don't rely on them!" he calls, making sure that the soldiers wouldn't stake their lives on them working.
The outside manor walls seemed to be getting destroyed, impacts and sounds of collapsing rubble paint a clear picture to those present, Mathias assumes that whatever is coming is digging it's way through the manor itself judging by the noises...
Suddenly, a guard points at the roof and shouts to draw everyone's attention, letting them spot the large figures preparing to jump down at them.
Mathias feels the nullifying magic disappear which allows some of his traps to survive, and as they'd spotted the things above them, most were able to get out of the impact zone.
*BOOM!*
The large things jumped and landed heavily within the courtyard, some managing to fall atop some unlucky guardsman and as a result, were reduced to a fine red paste.
Mathias eyes these things warily, their bodies seemed to be entirely made from stone, most taller than 8ft. They moved slow and sluggishly, but their strength and defence obviously made up for this. Their two arms were like battering rams or stone clubs, anyone hit by them would find themselves waking up in the River Styx.
Some ended up landed atop some of Mathias traps though, the Stasis Traps springing to life and enveloping the Golems in blue light, keeping them completely still for ten seconds.
*CRACKLE!*
Not all the traps were as effective unfortunately, his lightning trap doing almost no damage to the stone golem that'd landed atop it...
Mathias was about to make the first move out of everyone when Barnock takes the opportunity, leaping at the nearest Golem and punching it with a roar.
*SHATTER!*
The Golem was almost immediately reduced to rubble by the fist, sending fragments cascading at the wall behind it and causing it to almost collapse.
Bartosz "Holy shit! You see that men!? FIGHT THEM!" he shouts, everyone's adrenaline pumping through their bodies after witnessing Barnocks absolute domination with his fists alone.
The guards charge at the enemies, their swords and spears at the ready... Mathias watches as a few attack the ones frozen in his stasis trap, their weapons doing literally nothing against their stone exterior... Luckily there was an expert at dealing with these kinds of threats. The Witcher named Eskel dashes towards the Golem and chops at its frozen arm with his silver blade, and with some resistance it comes off relatively easily.
Mathias "Guards! Protect the children! Your weapons are useless against these foes!" he shouts, casting some Magic Missiles at a few of the Golem that'd arrived on the roof and were preparing to follow their comrades.
The Missiles explode through their bodies and luckily sending them falling backwards, away from the courtyard and outside the manor.
Bartosz laughs as he draws his weapon, a Dark Red Flame appearing in his let hand as he swipes it across his blade, causing similar red flames to envelope it. Once his preparations were done he charges at a lone Golem and dodges it's slow swing, stabbing his blade into its side and brutally wrenching it out at an odd angle, forcing the wound he'd created even wider than before.
The flames seemed effective at dealing with these foes, any stone touched by it melting into slag and doing irreparable damage to them.
Barnock continues his destructive rampage, the only reason he was managing to keep his senses through his rage is due to the many years he'd spent training himself. As a Barbarian losing yourself was easy, and this resulted in many turning into mindless beasts and giving their society a bad name... But those that managed to control themselves became incredibly powerful, some being able to single-handedly fight off armies on their own.
Barnock himself was sent out into the world as the tribes believed he had the potential to become as strong as Bul-Kathos, the Immortal King who unified the Northern Tribes. The children sitting within the courtyard watched in awe as he tore the Golems apart with his bare hands.
