"What?" Jenny asked in confusion. What did they all do? She hadn't done anything bad, had she?
Her mother stared at her with that unreadable expression that always made it hard to tell what she was thinking. What did she mean?
Her mother leaned forward and steepled her fingers, watching her daughter closely as if she could tell every thought that passed through her head.
Jenny felt as if she'd been sent back in time to when she was a teenager, sitting before a judge who already knew the verdict before she could even present her defence.
"Do you really think I wouldn't notice?" Her mother asked calmly. "I built Apex from the ground up. There's not a move made in this company that I don't see."
"And what are you talking about?" Jenny asked in confusion. "What exactly do you know?"
That was when a knowing smile appeared on her mother's face. "Everything."
