Previously.
Levi thinks over her offer knowing she had done it numerous times and could do it faster and better.
He shrugs and says "Deal."
Sam vacates her seat, walks towards Levi, and hands him the pen. He gave her the three resealable bags with hair (non-human) inside, explaining which is which. She nodded and linked the microscope to the computer.
She adjusted the Stage, the Stage lights, and the lenses making sure they were on the same magnification.
Sam had first examined the hair sample that came from 'Suzy' of which she labeled as Sample1. Sample 2 was the batch Levi had taken from the store. And Sample 3 was from the suspect's dog 'Sunshine'.
Sample 1 remained on the left Stage of the microscope, and one by one she placed Sample 2 on the right Stage and compared it.
"Match," she repeated on the 13th strand of Sample 2, removing it and replacing it with a new one. Levi huffed, as he signed the papers. If all of Sample 2 matches with Sample 1. Sample 3 would be rendered worthless, there would be no need to test it for it wouldn't place the suspect in the crime scene.
"Oh," passed Sam's lips, looking at the samples side by side. She turned to the computer screen for a bigger view.
"What?" Levi asked, turning to look at the back of Sam's head.
She did not reply, instead, she removed Sample 1 from the left Stage and replaced it with a strand from Sample 3. Examining the two hairs, Left Stage: Sample 3, Right Stage: Sample 2, comparing the microscopic scale pattern and pigment distributions.
Sam turned smiling at him, "It's your lucky day." she says.
2 days later.
Levi and Marco sat in the kitchen drinking tea inside the Dixon's flat, across the table was the couple; Mr. and Mrs. Dixon.
Raymond Dixon climbed the stairs to his parent's flat, his mum called him that morning asking for help moving some heavy furniture. Claiming she was doing some cleaning and needed help with some heavy lifting.
Raymond left his flat with his dog Sunshine, and they had to walk 6 blocks to get to his parent's home.
"Mum!" he called as he entered through the front door and closed it behind him. He released Sunshine from her leash and the white fluffy dog ran towards its waiting friend, Suzy. He shrugged off his jacket and threw it on the sofa making his way towards the kitchen. "Mum?" he called again.
Raymond paused midstep the second he entered the kitchen. There sat two familiar men, the slick blond-haired man he could recall meeting two days prior outside of his parent's store. The way the blond man was dressed stood out like a sore thumb in their little neighborhood. He looked too posh.
Raymond turned to look at his parents sitting across the two strangers, he tensed the moment he saw his parent's expression. Mostly his mother, who had a look of disappointment on her face. His dad, he could see had it too, but his face was slightly turned away, angry. Angry enough that he refused to even look at him.
"What's going on?" he asked, baffled, suddenly afraid he had been found out.
Levi smiled at Raymond after sipping his tea. "Based on the fear in your eyes, I think you know exactly what's going on, Raymond," he says.
"Who, who are you?" Raymond asked.
Otis fisted his hands, and Levi watched as the older man's shoulder started to shake out of anger. Levi grabbed his cup of tea, and leaned back, as Otis raised his palms and struck the table in fury, strong enough that Marco's cup shook and spilled over. Marco stood in a hurry, as the tea made its way towards him, almost staining his clothes. Marco turned to Levi who did not move from his seat, as if expecting it.
Ronald and his mom both jumped at the impact, Otis turned to his son, jaw clenched and his face turning beet red. It was him all along, his very own son. His wife grabbed his arm, both trying to calm and restrain him.
"Raymond, we know you were the one who had been breaking in your parent's store and stealing money" Levi informs.
Raymond shifted to look at his parents and back to Levi, "What are you-- what are you talking about? I did no such thing!" Raymond claimed. What a terrible liar, Levi thought, as even his parents could tell he wasn't telling the truth.
"We found traces of your dog's fur in the scene, and one of the best forensic scientists of this day and age had confirmed it belongs to your dog, Sunshine," Levi explains, the dog's name yet again passed his lips like acid. "How would you explain that?" Levi challenged.
"We also learned that you had been hanging out with the wrong crowd as one would say," Levi adds, placing his cup back on the table. Hinting on the fact that Raymond Dixon had been spending a lot of time with ruffians, based on the intel they've gathered. He had also noted in their first meeting how Raymond's eyes were slightly red and his lips were dry. And when he bent down to pet his dog, he had a closer view of Raymond's hands. His fingertips were yellow from the tobacco bleeding thru the paper when smoking a Joint. Signs of Cannabis Addiction.
Tears flowed down Mrs. Dixon's face, saddened by the fact that it was her son who had been stealing from them. He promised them he had stopped, turned over a new leaf but that was all a lie.
Levi sighed loudly for effect, "Your parents, mostly your mother wants you to voluntarily enter a rehab center. I suggested that you be arrested, to be honest." Levi states casually, looking at Raymond's face turning pale. Levi saw the sudden change in Raymond's eyes, as though he was thinking, it was his instincts kicking in him to either 'fight or flight.'
Levi stood slowly, elbowing Marco subtly. He knew something was about to happen, 'what are you going to do?' he pondered, observing Raymond as each second passed painfully slow.
Raymond bolted out of the kitchen.
So, it's fly, Levi thought.
"Leg it!" the Irishman exclaims.
Levi and Marco followed after him
Marco running ahead of Levi, right behind the short skinny Dixon. When Raymond suddenly sped up, Marco was very surprised to discover he ran pretty fast for a man with short legs.
Marco shot Levi an incredulous look, wide-eyed. "He was in 'Track and Field' !" Levi said, recalling it was written on Joe's background check report. He should have considered it in the first place, Raymond was a double-dealing Imp. An addict, a coward. Of course, he'd run.
Raymond leads them to the train tracks and he disappears in the darkness of an abandoned railroad tunnel.
Marco moves to follow behind while Levi stops on his tracks, considering his suit. It was Corneliani, fairly expensive. Marco turns to the blond wondering what was wrong. Raymond was about to getaway. "Let's go!" Marco says ahead of him.
"I'll meet you on the other side," Levi says, running in a different direction and Marco nods, running forward, entering the tunnel.
Levi stops, turns to look if Marco was out of sight, satisfied he grins widely. He is such a fool, Levi thought. He pulls his leather cigar case from his breast pocket, pulls a medium-sized cigar, cuts the end with his steel guillotine. Then pulls his torch flame from his pant pocket and he cups his hands around the flame, sucking the life into the cigar, and waits. The tunnel was a dead end, only one way to go but back.
Marco emerges from where he entered the tunnel, sweating, covered in dirt and grime, in his arms was Raymond Dixon. He squints as the light hits his face, and he sees a police car waiting a few meters away. And standing in a corner was Levi, smoking a Cigar.
Levi scanned Marco, based on the mud and dirt marks on his clothes, and the redness in his face, a scuffle occurred inside the tunnel. He would have loved to witness Samson and Goliath in action, but he was wearing Corneliani, removing the stains would be a nightmare.
Marco narrowed his eyes at the blond psychologist, he huffed annoyed, recalling the psychologist's words before 'I'll meet you on the other side.' When in fact, there was no 'other side' as Levi claimed. The man had tricked him yet again.
"Good job, Dr. Evans!" Levi cheered, taking a long last draw on his cigar. He drops it to the ground and steps on it. Exhaling the smoke out of his mouth moments later.
"You're such a dick," Marco states, out of breath, as he approached. He let the policeman take Raymond into custody.
"I called the Bobbies didn't I?" Levi interjected, satisfied that another case is solved. He turned to leave, Marco followed. Levi shot him a look, scanning him from head to toe in disgust. He smelt like sewer, and he didn't trust the caking 'mud' on the brunette's clothes. "You're not riding with me." He declares leaving a shocked GP.
"You're a dick, Jackson!" Marco shouts, watching Levi's retreating back, waved back at him. He turns back towards the police car, knowing at least they could give him a ride. He pauses halfway, sniffing himself.
Damn it, he thought.
