Alex clenched his fists and punched the ground.
"Boom..."
The earth cracked! The fissure seemed alive, racing toward Sif and the others. They quickly jumped into the air to steady themselves.
Now's the chance!
A sonic boom erupted from Alex's spot, creating a crater in the ground. Hogan and Volstagg saw a blur, their weapons flew from their hands, and they fell heavily in front of Thor. As the dust settled, Alex and Sif appeared.
Sif's sword pressed against Alex's chest, but it couldn't move an inch forward. Alex had her hand in a vice grip, while his other hand clutched her neck, lifting her off the ground. Sif's face turned red.
Alex had learned from experience. Unable to grip the enchanted sword, he opted for her neck instead. It turned out to be rather slippery. Unconsciously, he traced her jawline with his fingers. How could a woman who fought daily have such smooth skin?
Sif's face reddened further.
"Rogue...bastard...let me down!"
"Ahem...uh, sorry..."
Alex released her, and Sif stopped attacking. Like an ordinary person, she kicked him before running back to Thor.
"Alex, no wonder you said I might not be your match even if I reclaim Mjolnir. You have incredible strength. How can anyone on Earth be so strong?"
Thor stood with his four warriors: Sif, Fandral, Hogan, and Volstagg. They bowed slightly to Alex, right hands over their chests in salute—an Asgardian warrior's respect for the strong.
Alex glanced at Sif, whose blush hadn't faded. Whether from embarrassment or anger, he wasn't sure. Her fierce glare seemed to say: Rogue!
Alex smiled helplessly. He hadn't meant to tease her; in battle, there was no time for such thoughts. As for the finger touch...well, that was just instinct.
Thor stepped forward, gave Alex a bear hug, and said, "Father invites you to Asgard as a guest. It seems he has more insight than I do. When I reclaim Mjolnir, come with me to Asgard. However, father may not be able to receive you personally."
Sif and the others were shocked. The man before them had been invited by the All-Father himself? No wonder he was so powerful.
"Thor, don't worry. You'll get the hammer back soon."
Thor sighed, "I hope so, but I have no clue."
Just then, a strong energy wave came from a distance. The top warriors felt it immediately. In the distance, dark clouds gathered, the sky cracked, and a black tornado descended. Sand and rocks flew everywhere.
"The Bifrost!" Thor exclaimed. "Sif, besides you, who else knows of this?"
The four warriors shook their heads. "No one," they said.
Soon, they had an answer. As the rainbow light faded, a massive humanoid machine appeared in the teleportation rune.
The Destroyer!
The Destroyer looked like a stack of metal rings forming a humanoid shape, glowing with a dark metallic luster. It had two large holes on its face, but no eyes—just hollow darkness.
It stood still, like a work of art. But now, the face opened, spewing hot flames. It killed people and destroyed buildings on sight. Houses exploded, cars flew, and flames shot into the sky.
In the original story, when Coulson saw the Destroyer, he still didn't know the danger. He held a loudspeaker and shouted, "You are using an unauthorized weapon. Identify yourself..."
The Destroyer ignored him and blasted flames, destroying cars and killing many agents. Coulson survived by hiding quickly.
But with Alex's warning, Coulson had already ordered his men to evacuate, avoiding disaster!
Alex knew that Loki, far away in Asgard, had finally acted against Heimdall, the guardian of the Bifrost. Loki used the Frost Giant's power to freeze Heimdall, seize control of the Bifrost, and send the Destroyer to Earth.
With Loki's nature, there would be no mercy for innocents. The town screamed in panic, everyone fleeing.
"Jane and the others are still in town. We must go back quickly," Thor urged.
"Who's Jane?" Sif asked.
"His girlfriend," Alex replied.
Sif couldn't help but feel disappointed. She had always had a secret affection for Thor, much like Pepper Potts with Iron Man. For years, she hoped Thor would reciprocate. Even in "Thor 2," Odin himself hinted at it, urging Thor to cherish the people in front of him. But Thor never responded, leaving Sif heartbroken.
In the urgent situation, Sif set aside her feelings and rushed to confront the Destroyer with the others. Entering the town, Thor assigned tasks: "I'm mortal now and can't fight. Hold back the Destroyer while I help evacuate the townspeople."
He turned to Alex. "I'm sorry, Alex. We've brought disaster to Earth."
"It's not your fault, Thor. I know Loki is behind this, and I'll settle the score with him."
They split into two groups. Thor went to find Jane, while Alex, Sif, and the others faced the Destroyer. Sif ran to the side, saying, "Draw its fire from the front."
Fandral, Hogan, and Volstagg stepped forward, shouting, "For Asgard!" But they were quickly driven back by the Destroyer's flames. However, this gave Sif a chance. She jumped high, using a building for leverage, and drove a spear into the Destroyer's neck from behind. The flames dimmed, and Sif smiled confidently.
Alex sensed something was wrong. The Destroyer's rings began to rotate, its back becoming its front, and a powerful flame was about to erupt. "Boom!" Alex disappeared, reappearing to grab the Destroyer's head and twist it, diverting the flame past Sif.
"Thank you," Sif said, jumping down.
The Destroyer's rings rotated again, the head turning into feet, and it looked down at Alex.
"Boom..."
Alex curled into a ball, jumped high, and struck the Destroyer's chest, sending it crashing to the ground.
"Finally, I can fight with all my strength!" Alex grinned wickedly.
"Roar..."
It was as if an ancient beast had awakened. Alex, ant-sized compared to the Destroyer, roared defiantly at the towering machine.
