From my understanding, it’s most likely a whole lot of jealousy. Even if situations are objectively fair, envy can distort things in a certain way to blame one's failure on the other person rather than yourself. People usually have a level of self-centeredness, even if it’s not strong, it’s still there. So when you’ve lived life with nothing but suffering, then being told that some entity above with grace you one day and make it all better, it’s hard to not feel abandoned or lied to when those words prove to be false.
