I said, didn't I? Most familiars have ethereal humanoid forms around their Cores. If Linfel wanted to pass by as a Familiar, he had to use his Magic Energy to create a similar thing. So, yes, he does have a face, a body, etc... It's just that it is very small, around 30cm more or less, like the other Familiars. That's how I picture it. Think about it as a small semi-transparent yellow body around his core. It will change color once he levels up.

Usually, you would have such questions indeed. And I did think about adding something related to it to the story. But in the end, it seemed like something too boring for the readers, so I simply let him speak normally and used the normal concept of time, etc...

It is explained in this same paragraph. He says you won't create another one lightly, not that you can't manage to do it. The problem would be to create a Level Two Familiar like Saimon did. That one is definitely out of Alvin's league. But Linfel is considered to be a normal Level One Yellow Familiar.
