while sound, there's a hole in that logic, you forgot the way the Maiden's power transfers. When a Maiden dies, the way their powers transfer is that they go to the person who was last on their mind, baring a few conditions (such as being male). if a maiden died a normal way like old age, they tend to think about their family or someone close to them. but if someone was out to kill them, for whatever reason their last thought could be on them instead
