There are just too many unknown things to the MC right now, and he only recently got turned. Also he thinks that he was lucky to get on to a base with supplies. Any city or town that doesn't produce their own food is screwed since the fog makes travel extremely difficult. So right now he is just waiting to see what happens and if it's possible to live in this new world swallowed up by the fog.
