Through the emotional upheaval with Dave, Laurent had come to a profound realization: women should have their own careers. Men were unreliable. Only by becoming strong herself would others respect her, and she would no longer fear being hurt by others.
Living like she used to, staying home all day to support her husband and raise children, disconnected from society and isolated from the outside world—if a man loved you, it was fine. But if he didn't love you or abandoned you, you were nothing. And especially when you were old and faded, abandoned at that point, there was no way out.
Fortunately, she was still young, not yet at the point of being discarded when she grew old and unattractive. It wasn't too late to start fighting now.
To be honest, she was even somewhat grateful to Dave. If it hadn't been for him, she wouldn't have had this sudden awakening. She might still be living in the fantasy of their loving relationship, unwilling to wake up.
