Embrace the void

Mars's eyes started glowing with a deep dark colour coming from under his eyelids. Black smoke emerged itself from his body, covering everything inside the lab. But no one noticed the change. It all happened too fast so no one saw it. The doctors only felt that something was strange.

Mars opened his eyes, being thrown out from his Mental Core. A new kind of energy was seemingly flowing inside his eyes, getting accustomed to its new body. A smile appeared on Mars face.

"Doc, I am back." "Special Ops Mars... what did you do?"

"I don't think I did that much, but I got some of my abilities back." The doctors eyes opened wide out of disbelief. "Do you even need my asistance then?" "I still couldn't repair my Mental Core, so please help me with that."

"Let us get you connected then."

Mars still thought of the previous annoncement.

... CONGRATULATIONS - NEW RACE AQUIRED VOID HUMAN ... VOID ENERGY DETECTED ... ENERGY CORE AVAILABLE ... NEW SKILL TREE AQUIRED ... THE WAY OF THE VOID IS SHROUDED IN DARKNESS ... BE CAREFUL ...

After that he had logged out from his Mental Core.

'System, is there an Interface or something like that.'

... ACCESSING INTERFACE ...

A blue screen appeared before Mars eyes, only he being able to see it.

A young man that got drawn in a conflict he should not be in. His soul is already tainted.

'The Void Affinity must have boosted my Skills a bit.'

"Special Ops Mars, I am starting the Mental Stabilizer. Get ready for it."

The wheel-shaped device started spinning around their heads, going faster and faster until The doctor fainted and was ready to access Mars's Mental Core. Mars did the same and entered it.

This time the black mass seemed even more alive and deeper. Swallowing everything beside him and the Doctor letting them both access his Mental Core.

The Doctor was still out, so Mars used the opportunity to expand his Illusory Space, masking the stars and the repaired places of his Mental Core, "returning" it to his former state.

Slowly the doctor regained consciousness standing up. "Well, that was one strange entrance. I took another repair tool with me, so no worries."

A strange beam shot out from the gun like tool toward the "Mental Core", covering it completely. Strangely nothing happened. The Core remained the same not changing a bit.

... MANUAL REPAIRING RECOGNIZED ... REPAIRING IN PROCESS ... REPAIRING IN PROCESS...

Mars didn't know if he should really trust these aliens and tried to fool them, letting them think, that he was still weak.

"Special Ops Mars, I am afraid that your core is too damaged since the repair tool isn't working..."

"Maybe we need more energy?"

"We could try using Interstellar energy but there is no telling if you can handle it. I would proceed to try using different methods and let you speak with the Commander first."

"Quick question, how can you leave this place?"

"Just think about it and I should get dragged with you."

"What is your Name and Status? I don't want to call you Doctor forever." Mars said in a funny tone.

"Special Ops Mars, this lowly Medic captain is named Aristoteles, but call me anything you like." "Ari it is then."

The darkness slowly returned to Mars feet while the Core sank into it depths again, hiding itself from the onlookers. The two of them returned to the real world one smiling from one end to the other, the other looking troubled.

... MANUAL MENTAL CORE REPAIRING SUCCEDED ... COMPLETION RATE 62 % ... FOR FURTHER REPAIRS MENTAL CORE SHARDS NEEDED ...

How was Mars supposed to find these shards. Do they just appear in his Core areas or was there another trick to it?

... CONGRATULATIONS ... REACHED 50 % COMPLETION RATE THRESHOLD ... MORE INFORMATION AVAILABLE ... WANT TO SEE THE NEW INFORMATION? ...

'Sure, why not.'

- Inside the testing room was a very happy human jumping around after getting recognized by one of his superiors. Soon after getting enough fun he realized that the process of the repairing and entering the Mental Core has been abysmally short, letting him see just how special the higher ups were. Still in awe he heard a loud thump. The powerful superior he was just eagerly admiring in his mind collapsed beside him, holding his head.

Mars hasn't been ready for the 'information' yet. It seemed like a memory, that has been supressed and forgotten. Two foggy man standing near each other, talking about unspeakable things. Suddenly one of them vanished and Mars felt a deep slash in his soul. The second man must have felt the same, puking black substance out of his mouth and dark smoke was released from his every pore. He was clearly screaming out in agony. Even though the language was strange, Mars understood the meaning."Damn you, you old fool! How dare you do this? What happened to the strong leader? She is gone! Understand that! So why... brother..." The man collapsed ending the memory.

Mars's thoughts: "There must clearly be a connection between that collapsing man and my powers. Otherwise why would have I felt that attack or why even show me this memory? There is something more meaningful behind it."
