Chapter 0. Blindness.

The world was once wounded. It was once weak. Long ago, under the cover of night-- eldritch terrors appeared from the great beyond and arrived on earth. The terrors ravaged the earth in a series of coordinated and planned attacks, completely unavoidable by mankind. The human race begged and pleaded to Gaia, The Goddess of Creation for protection. So she came down from the great beyond and kissed the earth, giving it the miracle of protection and rendering the eldritch monstrosities blind to it's presence in the universe. The humans rejoiced! They praised Gaia for her actions and began to thrive. The humans had become apex predators once more-- but Gaia's kiss came with a price. Humans were forced to share the earth with the supernatural. Vampires, werewolves, demons, angels, dragons, chimera and all manner of unnatural beings. At first, the races split into their own individual kingdoms and communities-- but they began mixing with each other. This led to hybrids, technically belonging to both communities. That wasn't the problem, it was how strong they were. These hybrids could tear apart wolf packs and witch covens easily-- and it began to become a serious problem. So a community of humans denounced Gaia, and began calling onto the eldritch monstrosities that plagued them so long ago. The final and strongest monstrosity. The blindness. With the help of the humans, this mass of darkness descended from the sky, and shrouded earth in complete darkness. Soon... after months of darkness, light returned earth-- but something was wrong. The humans were alone in the world. They always felt like they forgot something, like there was something else here before, but they couldn't figure out what. The blindness removed their sight, their ability to remember the supernatural, magic, and the unnatural. The communities were still there, but they were pushed to near extinction by the never-ending wrath that was the strongest eldritch terror. It laid waste to their children, their women, it took away vampire's ability to have children, weakened the witches of the world, and completely annihilated some species. The humans who summoned it didn't even remember what it was! It killed, it destroyed, it toyed, and it left. Just like that. There was one thing the humans forgot about. Gaia. The All-Mother. She was... angry, to say the least. She abandoned the earth, and cursed the humans with shorter life spans. The humans-- who lived to ages of 900 and 1000 were reduced to rotting sacks of flesh at just age 80. Centuries after the event, the supernatural had accepted their place in the shadows. It was certainly too dangerous to reveal themselves.
