Ch. 8

Sheila wakes up in a darkened hospital room, lying on a bed and staring around the unfamiliar surroundings. She feel weak and confused, her head pounding as if in a state of perpetual dizziness. Her arms and legs lay limp at the side of the bed. Sheila wasnt so sure how she got here, or what has happened to her. All she remembers was the last moment before she was being attacked by a creepers and almost being devored by that ferocious beast. She look around, wondering if someone will coming to tell her situation soon.

"Hello..." A beutiful nurse said to her, with a smile on her faces.

"Hello.. I'm sorry, aw-aw" Sheila said while growling in pain.

"Take it easy, you shouldnt get up from the bed.. You just woke up, after 20 days. "

"That long? What happens? "

"I don't know, Dr. Milley will tell you the detail, you shouldn't force yourself alright?"

"Wait.. What happens to my hometown? "

"That... I'm sorry I can't tell you, if you had something to ask, please ask Dr milley alright dear? "

"Yes... "

Upon realizing she had survived the ordeal, she started to try recalling what had happened. Was it all just a nightmare? She couldn't quite tell reality from fiction anymore, as her last memory was being on the verge of death. The situation was all too surreal and unreal, making her to only become more confused. She was at a complete loss as to what to do next.

In the dimmed hospital room, Sheila begins to recall something. It was Seita, she was looking for Seita. If this was just a dream, Seita would be here waiting for her, at the side of the bedroom.

As she thought of her little brother, a panic attack suddenly hit her. Where was her little brother? He had to be nearby, around here. The thought of his whereabouts sent her into a frenzy. In that nightmare she was desperate to find him and make sure he was safe. What if thats wasn't a dream? What if that was the reality? Her heart raced and a sheet of panic gripped her tightly.

All she thinking about was her little brother.

"Seita where are you!?"

"Seita!!!"

Suddenly, The sound of a door clicking open startled her, making her pause her frantic thoughts. She had been hoping that whoever was coming inside the room would be her little brother. Her eyes were glued towards the opening, waiting to see if her wish would come true.

The reality was not as sweet as she'd hoped, as the one walking through the door was not her little brother, but a female doctor. The reality of the situation suddenly hit her, and the prospect of an unknown female visiting her did little to calm her nerves or put her mind at ease. She was hoping this female doctor could answers all the things she wondering.

"Sheila Mikoto.. Did I said it correctly? "

"Yes.."

"I'm doctor milley, maybe there's something you want to ask to me regarding the things that happened?"

"Seita!! Where is he? "

"Calm down.. Take a breath.. One thing for sure, he was alright... At the moment he was being take care in another room"

"Really!? Do you mean it!? "

In a tender and compassionate tone, the female doctor informs her that her little brother Seita was fine, " I swear at my family name"

Hearing this news, Sheila couldn't help but to shed tears of joy. The thought of her little brother surviving, and being okay, was too much for her, and in a moment she was overwhelmed with tears of joy. She was so happy to hear that he was alright, and her heart warmed at this new knowledge.

Sheila could not stop the stream of emotion that filled her heart and overflowed her eyes. She continued to shed tears in relief, the knowledge that her little brother Seita was Okay providing a wave of comfort and reassurance that engulfed her in emotion. Her tears were bittersweet, and she was both glad and sad, all at the same time.

"So what about the other? What about the uncle from the Shark steaks shop? And what about sister Natalie? "

The doctor tries to soften the blow, being mindful of the situation and the fact that many people had indeed died during the attacks. She speaks with a calming voice and tries her best to provide comfort and assurance. "Many people did unfortunately pass away during the attacks. I am sorry, but the man you ask from the steak shop, unfortunately, is one of the casualties."

The doctor had spoken kindly and had done her best to provide her with comfort and reassurance, but the news she had been given was still a bitter one. Sheila was now faced with this grim truth and was filled with a deep sadness. She simply replied with a short and sorrowful "I see."

" Can I see seita? "

The Doctor considered this request, she knew nothing good could come from her declining it.

She finally replied "I'm not sure if that's a good idea, you're still feeling quite weak and it might upset you to see your brother."

"Please I beg you doctor.."

The doctor sighed, as she was expecting such response from her, she could see the desperations from her eyes and she finally conceded. Knowing it was the only way to made the girl to ease her minds.

"It might upset you.. But I'm assure you for the moment he was fine"

"Okay doctor... "

After a while.

In the dimmed hospital room, Sheila was presented with a new sight, something she had never seen before in a hospital. It was like couple of a machine tub, an advanced equipment, something that she would have never expected to see in a hospital. The heavy atmosphere only explaining the ominous feeling she had and made her feel more nervous.

Sheila who was led into seita room in a wheelchair, which only served to worsen her concern for seita. As she slowly entered the room, she was suddenly faced the harsh reality of the situation, her little brother lay in the bed, hooked up to all kinds of medical equipment. She felt her heart sink at the bottom, seeing this as she instantly felt overwhelmed with despair, fear, and sadness.

The sight of her little brother, who had lost his right arm, also made her feel even more devastated. With the terrible sight in front of her, she could not hold back her tears any longer and she began to cry uncontrollably. Seeing him like this broke her heart. What kind of life would he have, missing a limb? She felt guilt and remorse, thinking that she could have prevented this.

"There's not many who's had luck like him, the bite of the creepers was so severe, not only that he was being poisoned by creepers bloods. So the infections was kinda miracle and curses at the same time. Because thanks to the creepers blood infections he could survive from that life ending injuries." The Doc.Milley said with a concerned eyes.

"Poison? What do you mean?"

"The poison in the creepers' blood, when introduced to a human body, is known to cause mutations, turning them into mindless and dangerous beasts. This is because it not only alters their behavior and body but it also completely erodes their ability to rationality. They will attack everything and anything in their sight."q

"So I have to let him go? I-is there's no cure for h-him?"

The doctor sighed, realizing that there really was no choice but to let Seita go. She knew that it would be difficult, but it was the best thing she could do for him. "I'm afraid you have no choice but to let him go. I'm sorry but it's the best thing for him. The only ways we could provided now was to slowing down his infections"

Hearing this news Sheila could only felt solemn and pain towards the harsh reality, the only words she could mutter was a cold and simple word incapable to tell her true feeling

"I see"

"We still doesn't had the cure for him right now, but at least we just found the ways to slow down his infections, and that answers came from you"

"W-what? What do you mean? "

"We just found in your blood, a new ways to advance humanity survival, and the ways to save your little brother. It's all in your blood"

"Really!? Are you telling the truth? "

"Yes... But in order to do that, we need to study your body, your bloods and everything about this news discovery"

She nodded her head, her eyes wet with tears. She was glad, so very glad. She had never though that her blood could be the saving grace for her little brother. Every ounce of her energy was focused on keeping him alive and if her blood was the thing that was keeping him alive then she would do whatever she could to make sure she could keep giving him the chance to survive.

"Seita... I'm glad, I could save you. "
