Wolf's Zone

A young girl, Letty Black, understands that the last thing she remembers is her father's death. Her childhood, teen years, first kiss, and first love are a tabula rasa. Her memories are gone, and no matter what she did and how many qualified doctors she had seen, there's no progress in getting her memories back except for strange dreams: an unknown city, a handsome blond man with magnificent blue-brown eyes, and... wolves...? What do all those dreams mean? Is she mad, or that's a hidden world under her nose?

Revealing his past

She was silent for a few long, minutes, making me worry more and more. I'd like to read her thoughts and to know what she thinks about all of this, that she doesn't consider me a monster and a killer, but I couldn't. Until her werewolf part is sleeping, my mind-reading gift is useless…

{I never felt so useless}, I thought and knew William heard me. As an Alpha and Beta, we can share some special connection even outside our werewolf bodies, there's only one flaw: he can't answer me.

William stepped closer to me and, unnoticeable to Letty, put his hand on my shoulder for a second, then took it back, and remained standing close to me, giving me his full support. I doubt if he knew those feelings, as he's already married and his wife never lost her memory, but I'm still very thankful. I may be a skilled Alpha, but I know so little about love and all these things.

It took her some more minutes to finally say something.

"You said previously that your father was sick, so I don't think you did something bad. You, actually, helped him to have an honorable death if to take into consideration he was an Alpha. I don't remember him, but I doubt he'd like to die like a sick old man." Letty looked at me with a thoughtful look, and it was hard to believe it was said by a girl who barely remembers herself being a werewolf. We exchanged looks with William, then looked back at her. She was already holding a book with a silver cover in her hands, then opened it and started looking for something. In a second, she turned it to us and opened it in the middle of the book, where two drawings were. One drawing was of a middle-aged man with black hair and deep blue eyes. His face was of a square type, the eyebrows were thick, and the lips were plump. It was a tall and muscled man, and I knew him.

"James Black," I said with no doubts, then looked at the second drawing of a big wolf with silver fur, "And his wolf form."

I was looking at him closely, observing every move of the muscle on his face. While observing the drawing of my father, Aiden was as sad as when he was talking about his own father, however, it was still different. He definitely knew him, and not only that. I feel like they were close, maybe even closer than with his own father.

"He was my teacher, I liked him a lot. My father was different, and I didn't like his way of ruling the Pack, so I was learning from your father," he suddenly said, then looked at me and sighed, probably from my shocked facial expression. However, before he was able to explain his words, or I was able to ask a question about the position of my father in the Pack, someone knocked on the door.

"Come," Aiden answered, and turned his head to the one who entered his office. It was the same shirtless man with dark skin, however, he had jeans on him this time. I closed my face with a hand to not observe his naked torso and muscled body. Someone chuckled not far away from me.

"You should get on yourself some more clothes to not confuse our only lady." I heard the voice of the Beta and could feel a hint of derision, so I removed a hand off my face and straightened up.

"No need," I crossed hands on my chest, seeing guys smiling, probably from my behavior. It threw me out of a calm line I usually try to keep, but only for a moment. "Any news about those strangers? I want to get back to my room!"

Aiden stood up from the sofa, then turned to the man with the dark skin, facing him. That one immediately lowered his eyes to the area of Aiden's neck, and this move reminded me of something.

Suddenly, I saw a lot of people gathered around a tall man with black, messy hair somewhere deep in the dark forest. They were kneeling before him, one by one, then straightening up, looking at his eyes for a second, lowing their gaze to the neck area after all. A tall man with messy hair was squeezing their shoulders for a second, as if letting them go somewhere far away from him.

Then, the man slowly turned to me and I saw his deep blue eyes that reminded me of my own.

"Father…," I whispered, feeling my eyes becoming wet. It was the first real memory of my father for all three years. It just proved I'm on the right path. Step by step, I'm getting closer to solving the mystery about my father and everything going on around me.

Unexpectedly, I felt they were watching me as if I missed a part of a very important conversation.

"Letty?" Aiden got closer to me, observing me from head to toes, "Are you okay?"

"Had I missed something important?" I asked, still seeing my father's eyes in front of me. His eyes were the most beautiful eyes on the whole Earth… after Aiden's eyes, of course.

"Chris said, that those werewolves who chased you, run back to the forbidden territory. They made a temporary settlement there, or maybe even two of them."

"I can get back to the hotel?" I asked, looking straight into Aiden's eyes and trying to not drown in them.

"If you want, yes," he said, then turned away from me to his friends, as if he expected me to say something else and was offended, "We should follow them. William, go tell all the sniffers to get ready. Chris, go get some rest. We'll go there as soon as the sniffers' teams will be ready."

"Fine. Thanks for the help," I put his jacket back on the sofa, then put on the sneakers, slipped among them, and went outside to the corridor when someone caught my hand. I turned around to see Aiden gently holding my left hand as if asking me to stay for some more minutes.

"Are you sure everything is okay?" Aiden asked, then I noticed he was holding my diary in his left hand, slightly whirling it around, so I can see from time to time my name tattooed on his wrist. He was trying to give me some hint, but my mind was busy with the only memory of my father I recently got. I was seeing it again and again, as if someone put it on the "repeat" button in my head.

I tried to shake my head to get rid of the annoying thoughts and concentrate on Aiden and my diary in his hand. He was calmly waiting, still holding my hand.

"I'm fine," I repeated, then reached his hand with my diary, waiting for him to give it back.

"I strongly recommend you to visit our local archive. There are a lot of old documents, that might have some facts about your parents…" Aiden specifically highlighted the word "parents" with his voice for me to understand that he means both of my parents, not only my father. My heart started breaking faster, filling the whole room with the heartbeat.

"You know something about my real mother?"

"Not only," Aiden put my diary back in my hand, then crossed his hands on his chest, "Let's make an agreement. I'll tell you everything I know and everything you want to know after you'll get some answers in the archive."

I blinked my eyes, then nodded. Aiden charmingly smiled.

"Tell me when you're ready," he said, then turned back to the office without closing the door. I turned away and tend to leave when I heard William's question to Aiden.

"Why archive? You could have asked her for a date?"

"I want her to remember that part of herself she had forgotten. It might answer a few dozen of the questions in her head," Aiden answered, and before I was caught spying, I left the corridor and went downstairs.

My car was outside waiting for me in the parking lot. Aiden's words affected me more than any other motivational things I ever heard. If the archive is the last spot in this mystery, then I have no time to waste. I drove to the archive to get all the available answers without even knowing how it will change my life.

But for the good, or for the bad, we're all are about to discover.
