Pre-Season Testing

When Hunt arrived at the garage his crew members assigned an engineer to Hunt to show him the car and its basics. He showed him what every button on the car does. He also got a chance later that day to get his custom wheel made. Throughout the day he learned more about the different calls and which engine modes benefited the car.

Finally, during the last hour of Testing Day 1, he was able to go out on a run. Immediately he felt that although the car was better than an F2 car, it felt very skittish with the rear-end always wanting to step out and sling the car off the track.

After setting the 19th fastest lap Hunt pulled towards the pit lane his engineer can on the radio:

Engineer: So how did the car feel?

Hunt: It felt like s***

Engineer: *stifles laughter* Okay can you be more specific?

Hunt: It's just bad there's no rear downforce the car understeers into every corner

Engineer: *Nodding* Alright we'll see what we can do to help.

Russell had faired better, He used his 2 years of experience to place the JR01 in a respective P15.

Engineer: P15! P15! What a lap P15!

GRussell: YES BOYS!! LETS GOOOOOOO!

Day 2

Hunt arrived back at the Circuit De Barcelona-Catalunya for the second day of Pre-Season Testing. This time he had been informed that his team had added a more downforce related to the rear wing to help with rear-end downforce. When he got to the garage, he was told that the second he got into his race suit and had his protective gear on he was gonna be sent out to the pit lane to be let into the circuit

Once he got out onto the track he immediately felt that the car had tons more control through places where it felt like hell the previous day. He did his best but only managed the 18th fastest lap of the day, then at the corner that felt the worst the other day disaster struck. When Hunt was turning towards the apex of turn 6 while going flat-out he made a massive mistake and a huge wobble that he couldn't catch and ended up flying off the track skipped across the gravel, slammed hard into the tire barrier.

Engineer: Hunt are you okay?

Hunt: Yeah I'm fine, sorry guys. ****!!!!

Engineer: It's okay mate, just switch of the car. Remember P1 then P0

Hunt climbed slowly out of his ruined car and walked slowly back to the garage.

Meanwhile...

At Russell's side of the garage, they were working with a coolant leak that had left Russell in the garage for most of the second day. From the snippets that he heard from the people working on the car, he learned that on Russell's maiden lap in the JR01 he ran his car over one of the storm drains. He hit it with so much force he ruptured the coolant tank and leaked the slippery substance all over the track.

Hunt also found out that it wasn't his fault he crashed out (it should be dead obvious what happened to make Hunt crash out). As it turned out Russell had crossed over the same spot not so long ago and the marshals didn't notice.

Day 3

During the third and last day of testing the team finally figured out George's coolant leak and he was sent out to do laps. Hunt however was late to get out on track. After his trip into a wall yesterday his car's right-hand side was destroyed. It took a long time to repair the car.

While Hunt was getting his car repaired, Russell was on an in-lap he was told that the HAAS of Mazepin was on a fast timed lap and that he should let him through. Though right after doing so Nikita suddenly slammed on his brakes. By the time George looked up from his wheel and noticed the slow HAAS, it was too late. He smashed into the back of Mazepin lifting his car up and over Nikita's car

Mazepin: Holy s*** what the f*** was that do the people not know how f***ing drive?

GSteiner: It's okay man, bad luck just bring it back.

*from George's radio*

GRussell: That was f***ing stupid. You do a good job and the kid just come and f*** it all up

Engineer (Sorry haven't thought of any engineer names yet. Feel free to suggest some): It's okay bad luck, don't know what he was doing but we'll tell the stewards.

Crofty: And that will bring out the red flag as there has been a massive incident at the back straight. It appears that the Jaguar Racing car of George Russell has hit or the HAAS of Mazepin or rather it was the other way around and it was Mazepin that hit Russell! Now as we looked to the replay, Russell lets the Haas through because he is told that he is on a timed lap. Look right after he lets him by he looks down to adjust something. At that time he just slams the brakes and there's nothing that Russell can do. He looks up and attempts to stop but just can't.

*from Hunt's radio* (Hunt was just about to start a flying lap when the red flag came out)

Engineer: So the session has been red-flagged. I repeat, the session has been red-flagged.

Hunt: FOR WHAT!!!

Engineer: So your teammate rear-ended de Vries and that is what causes the red flag. Both cars are stranded, the session will resume when both cars have been removed and the debris cleared.

Hunt: *getting visibly frustrated* UGH!!

Engineer: Yeah, sorry mate. Just bad luck

Hunt: *inhales and exhales in pure anger* *shuts of radio*

Race (or rather testing) control: The race has been green flagged as the track as been deemed safe and clear of debris

Sadly after the incident with Mazepin, one very frustrated George Russell was unable to go back out onto the track to test, as his front end had been wrecked by the HAAS's complex rear-end,(edit: rereading this that sounded very wrong) but throughout the three day test period, (Yes I know testing is 6 days long but first, I don't want this chapter to be a pain to read and second if I do choose to write 6 days of testing, I'm probably gonna go insane) they have figured out that even though Russell isn't the best under-braking he has the upper hand over his teammate in raw pace.

Hunt however had a different story unlike George, he did not screw up his car and give his mechanics a hard time. The team was able to gain more data on where the car was and how to make it better. They would out that the car was good under braking in general but horrible in powerwise. Out of each corner, both Hunt and Russell were 2 - 3 tenths off the pace as their car just couldn't generate enough immediate speed.
