He looked at the counter area. "There's no one else ordering. Why can't you? You work here too," he taunted.
I shot him a nasty look. This guy was unbearable. I wanted to hit him.
"I already gave you your order. Can I return to my station now?" I said, trying to keep my composure.
He didn't respond but continued staring at the bracelet on my wrist. I didn't wait for his answer and headed back to my station, as customers were starting to notice and talk about us.
"Are you okay?" Mathew asked, trying to calm me down.
I glanced at him and nodded, deciding to stay quiet. I didn't want to prolong the conversation; he knew I was furious with that guy.
Marco and I had been staring at each other as if we were having a silent battle, waiting for the other to look away. He was the first to break eye contact and stood up. As he left the coffee shop, I breathed a sigh of relief.
"I'm done with him. His attitude is awful," Mathew said, his expression grim. I raised an eyebrow at him.
"Now? You're just realizing it?" I asked incredulously.
"Sorry, I must have been blinded by his looks," he pouted.
"How many times have you said he's handsome? How many times now? Don't pout; you look like an ugly duckling," I said, raising an eyebrow.
"He is handsome, though. But why is he so angry? Did we say something wrong? He wasn't even the topic earlier. Maybe he's just assuming," Mathew speculated.
"I don't know, but he said earlier that I wouldn't remember, but he didn't elaborate," I explained to Mathew.
What could I possibly not remember about him? We had just met. I'd be the first to encourage myself to forget him.
"What did you do to him? He seemed really angry," Mathew asked.
"I don't know; we barely knew each other then. And if I did something wrong, it wasn't enough to justify his attitude. I'll just pray he forgets me," I said with frustration.
"That's really weird," Mathew mumbled.
"Definitely. He's the only one I know who acts like that. It's like he thinks we're close," I said.
Mathew shook his head and patted my shoulder to calm me down.
After our shift ended, and it was 8:00 PM, Mathew and I were waiting for our ride when I received an anonymous message on Messenger.
"Meet me at the street******* 8:00 PM tomorrow," I read aloud.
My mouth dropped as I recognized the location. It was the building I had been mistakenly told I was about to jump from.
Could it be the bracelet's owner? Why is he reaching out now?
I tried to click on the sender's profile, but it was locked. The person had intentionally made their profile inaccessible.
Why is this person suddenly contacting me? I pressed my lips together, trying to calm myself. My skin crawled at the thought of meeting someone at 8:00 PM.
"Are you okay?" Mathew asked.
I looked at him in surprise and nodded. "Yes, maybe just tired," I lied.
