Dragons grew to Adulthood quite quickly, taking only 3 years to become full grown.
Seeing as the two were almost a year old Ra decided it was best to let them know of his plans.
Bast wiped tears from Gwyn's face and Morrigan clung tightly to one of Ra's arms who was gently brushing her hair.
"I know it's a lot, but can I count on you two?"
The twins shared a look and then nodded, "Yes papa," they said in unison, Ra smiled. "Good, come see what I have for you," he said grinning. Gwyn's eyes lit up, "Presents?"
Ra laughed, "It's a kind of present," he said, chuckling as he brought out the pendants he had prepared. They were made of Radiant, silvery metal flecked with blue, the chain was a length of intricate links that exhibited a divine elegance in its craftsmanship.
The pendant itself was a single runic symbol, a curved, twisting shape that bespoke of the power contained within. Ra held one out to Bast who took it, she pulled Gwyn's hair into a tight ponytail before pulling the pendant over his head and settling it around his neck. Morrigan's eyes shined as the pendant dangled in front of her eyes as Ra helped settle hers around her neck as well. As the pendant came to rest against her chest a golden light emitted from the four of them, The pendants around Bast and Ra's necks had manifested and a stir of energy began to form within the circle they had formed as Ra began to speak, "We rally, here." he said extending his hand to tap Gwyn's chest. Gwyn felt his heart throb beneath the pressure of his father's finger.
"We confront them, here." he said as he tapped his finger against Morrigan's temple.
"Together, or apart, this bond shall neither fade nor crack. Inside these stones dwell the strength formed by this eternal pact." The golden light had coalesced into a single orb, it pulsed brightly changing from gold to pure white, it suddenly split, four parts darted into each pendant and each of them gasped as it entered them.
Ancient magic, used by the Primordials during the First Age to bind their generations as one.
Before there was a concept of family there was only bloodlines, what Ra had done was merge their bloodlines together.
They were truly a family now. Morrigan, since she'd hatched she had been the calm one, composed, her thinking was rational, and her actions were dictated by strict foundations of logic. She had never done anything that didn't make perfect sense, she never responded emotionally if she could respond pragmatically. But now, none of that mattered, right now she just wanted to be a little girl.
She allowed the tears to fall, she permitted the sobs to escape her slender throat. Those silver eyes tore at Ra's heart as he gazed into them like staring at twin moons. He folded her into his hug and patiently allowed her to shed every tear.
"Shh," he whispered finally after some time had passed, "Dry your eyes," Ra opened the enclosure he had created around her with his body and ran a rough thumb across her cheek, wiping away a tear.
"From here on you must be strong, you're not babies no more," he said, gazing pointedly at Gwyn, "Why look at me when you say that?" asked Gwyn crossly. "Oh you know why!" Morrigan snapped at him furiously shaking away the last of her tears. Bast laughed and cuddled Gwyn tighter, "Don't bully him," she said protectively, "it's not his fault." she crooned, nuzzling him.
"Spoiled brat," Ra muttered. "Oh shush," Bast snapped at him, "If anyone is spoiled here, it's you!" Ra rolled his eyes, "Whatever," he said dismissively, then quietly, "I am not spoiled..."
Merlin who had long since left had closed the door by the time Ra looked up, "Time for bed, you two," Ra said to the twins, Gwyn sucked his teeth loudly, to which Ra showed no small measure of surprise, "Where did...and who are you sucking your teeth at!" he hollered, raising his voice, Gwyn did not dare answer this as he quickly dove under the covers to seek refuge behind Bast. Ra sighed in defeat, he lifted the blanket to allow Morrigan access, "Clothes, papa," she said wrinkling her nose, "I sleep naked," he answered perfunctorily, "you coming or what?" Morrigan hopped into the bed, Ra cut the lights, the lethargy had long since set in and he fell into a dreamless sleep.
Merlin sighed as he paced in the hall, having finally come to terms with the knowledge that Bast and the kids would not be exiting the room. Which left...
Merlin walked with slow measured steps as he silently asked what horrible thing he had done in his past life to deserve his fate.
Resigning himself to the impending tongue lashing he was about to receive he pushed open the doors of the other room.
In front of the bed stood a woman dripping beads of water on the floor in thick droplets wrapped in a towel, a mess if dark black hair hung over her left shoulder. Merlin moaned in despair, his life was over, he was definitely going to die tonight. "You-" Merlin hard Xiara speak and braced himself for the attack. It didn't come, Xiara appeared to be having an internal struggle, "You can look..." she said hesitantly, Merlin peeked through his fingers to see Xiara burning red in the face, the towel in a puddle at her feet.
Merlin felt his body harden instantly as a savage hunger suddenly gripped him.
"Look?" he was unwilling to make a move without this confirmation.
Xiara's face was hot, "Do whatever you want!" she blushed and covered her face with her hands.
His heart hammering, Merlin licked his lips.
He approached her with slow even steps, he bent to lift the towel off the floor. He straightened and wrapped the towel around her chest, Merlin fought a pitched battle with the demon raging in his chest and forced it down. "I'll take the floor," He muttered with some effort as he curled up in a corner with his cloak.
Xiara felt her face burn with shame as she shook visibly with the rejection.
"No!" she exclaimed loudly storming over to his huddled figure, "you're going to fuck me!" and she dropped the towel as she dove for his pants.
