Chapter thirty seven

Because of the dispute with the daughter last evening, Wu Guang's temper was touchy.

In the morning, he called Longwei to see him and report about the work, and he criticized and condemned all his projects.

Poor Longwei! In the room, he stood with his head keeping low.

The young male felt he was like a cart that received an unfair beat from the driver who was angry with his cow. It happened all the time – when his father was unhappy with his half-sister, he usually released his anger on him. No matter what he did or spoke was not right.

Lady Mei realized that in the library her son was getting punished unreasonably. Nonetheless, she could not help him. Vapor from yesterday's fire still remained. What she could do was to keep silent or it would be another burning.

Since lady Chen was busy with the queen, lady Mei was in charge of managing the household.

While she was taking care of the kitchen, a maid came to tell, "Third madame, eldest young master comes. Now he is in the mini living room."

"I go," lady Mei said. She passed the duty to the cook, then hurriedly went to see her half-son.

"Third mother," Wu Feng said.

"Third madame." Fengge bowed.

"No need to be formal with me," lady Mei said with a smile. "Never seen you for a long time. How are you?"

"I'm good," Wu Feng said.

"What about second sister? How is she doing?"

"Thanks for caring. Her health is not bad."

"I'm glad to hear that. Anyway, what makes you come here?"

"I came to meet eldest mother to tell her that Lantian came to our house last night. My mother thought that eldest mother would be worried so she told me to inform her."

"Eldest sister has gone to the palace. When she comes back, I will tell her." Lady Mei paused for a few seconds then she asked, "Is Lantian fine?"

"She is still sleeping. Last night she was strongly drunk."

"Ugh…" Lady Mei whined very long.

"When Lantian arrived last night, she spoke, but I did not understand. Third mother, can you tell me what was going on yesterday?"

Before answering her half son, lady Mei showed another long and heavy breath.

"I'm not sure about it. I just knew that the queen called eldest sister to help prepare the feast to welcome the ambassador that would visit Song, and eldest sister brought Lantian to the palace with her. Then Lantian left eldest sister at the palace and went out. When master found out about this, he was angry. When Lantian came back, he called her to meet and asked her where she came from. Lantian said she was from the palace, he said she lied."

"Father didn't ask. He interrogated," Wu Feng said.

"You know your father," lady Mei stated. "He likes all children to be disciplined. When he asked why she left eldest sister, Lantian just said she had urgent tasks. Though he forced her to speak, she did not tell. Then eldest sister got in to help, master blamed that it was her mistake causing Lantian to be angry then she argued with him and also cursed the ancestors."

"Lantian cursed the ancestors?"

"Um." Lady Mei nodded. "She said that the ancestors were crazy. Master was very angry about this."

It was a surprise for Wu Feng to hear.

"Talking about last night, I was very scared," lady Mei continued. "Two of them argued with each other and yelled at I, Longwei, fourth sister and Dongmei when we wanted to help. Because of this we did not dare to open our mouths again. Only the eldest sister, she was alone trying to stop them. Then master was careless, he made her fall, fortunately Longwei helped her on time. This made Lantian anger stronger and said that master betrayed eldest sister, he was not good, that's why second sister left him."

This part shocked Wu Feng the most. Even Fengge who was standing behind felt that it was a very blow story.

"It was chaos. Master did not agree to lose and Lantian did not allow his father to win as well. She argued with him without pausing, causing master to be very angry and wanted to slap her."

Wu Feng opened eyes big, "Father slapped Lantian?"

"He just raised his hand, he did not touch her."

Hearing it, Wu Feng was at ease.

"Master greatly loved Lantian. How can he beat her? He just wanted to scare her to stop her from arguing with him, but who knows! Lantian was not afraid and she urged him to beat her – like he had beat you."

Now Wu Feng understood why his half-sister said while she was drunk that she had helped revenge for his mother and him. Mind of the brother was in pain and thankful as he knew what his younger sister had done for his ma and him.

"After that, what happened?" He said.

"After that, eldest sister warned her to stop, but Lantian did not and said that master was not good and killed a person."

"Qiao Bulong," Wu Feng said.

"Um." Lady Mei nodded her head. "She said master was the person who made her teacher die. Then eldest sister told her to apologize to master or she would not allow her to call her mother. Lantian was angry, then she left the house."

"I see. She was upset – with eldest mother," Wu Feng said.

"Eldest sister didn't mean to make Lantian upset. She just wanted the house to stay in peace."

"I understand this point. It's really hard for eldest mother. I'm just wondering. Lantian loved eldest mother so much. What was that task till making Lantian leave eldest mother like this? Third mother, do you know it?"

"I asked Xiaolan. She told that Lantian went to see the second daughter of millionaire Yang."

"Daughter of millionaire Yang!"

"Um. I also asked the carriage driver that took Lantian, he told she went to the hill at East outside the city."

"The hill at the East!" Wu Feng murmured. He made his eyes a little bit low, his face expression showed that he caught up with the core of the problem.
