Chapter 41: Secret Training
Eli knew he didn't have the luxury of time to spend years mastering the full set of Blink Sword techniques. With only a few months left before Doctor Mo, his master and captor, would confront him, Eli had to find a way to quickly gain some self-preserving abilities.
He decided to focus on mastering a few of the simpler, more practical secret techniques from the Blink Sword manual, leaving the more complex ones for later. This way, he could reduce the training time significantly and equip himself with usable skills in a shorter period.
Eli was acutely aware that even if he mastered these techniques, he might not be a match for Doctor Mo. If what Doctor Mo had said about his past as a formidable overlord was true, then the man must have numerous deadly tricks up his sleeve. Eli had only witnessed a fraction of his master's true power during their last encounter, and it was enough to send chills down his spine.
Realizing his limitations, Eli understood that his only chance lay in catching Doctor Mo off guard. If he could use his newfound skills to exploit any moment of arrogance or distraction from his master, he might find a sliver of hope to survive.
In the following days, Eli committed the entire Blink Sword manual to memory and selected a few critical techniques to focus on. He began a rigorous training regimen, methodically breaking down each move and refining his execution.
One evening, after completing another intense training session, Eli returned to his quarters, exhausted but determined. He knew that to truly stand a chance, he needed to be prepared on all fronts.
He visited several skilled blacksmiths within the sect and commissioned a set of customized short swords and a few other seemingly innocuous items. These included a series of small, intricately designed iron bells, each with a specific purpose in mind. The commissions cost him a significant amount of silver, leaving him with a pang of regret over the expense.
Days later, Eli collected his custom items. The short swords were perfectly balanced, and the iron bells were crafted with precision. Satisfied with the quality, he praised the blacksmiths for their excellent work, feeling that his money had been well spent.
That night, Eli vanished from his quarters, leaving behind only a note on his bed. It read:
"Doctor Mo, don't worry, I'm not running away. I find the pressure of being in the same valley as you detrimental to my cultivation of the Longevity Technique. Therefore, I have decided to find a secluded spot on the mountain to train in isolation. Rest assured, I will return in four months to meet you as promised.
Eli"
Doctor Mo, seated in his study, read the note with a dark expression. Another note lay on the table, detailing Eli's recent orders to the blacksmiths. The only sound in the room was the rhythmic tapping of Doctor Mo's fingers on the table.
Suddenly, he let out a cold snort, and the note crumbled into tiny pieces in his hand.
Standing up, Doctor Mo paced the room, contemplating his next move. After a few moments, he stopped and muttered to himself, "You little brat, I don't know what you're planning, but whatever tricks you have up your sleeve, you won't escape my grasp."
With that, he walked to the window and let out a low, long whistle. A small, yellow-feathered bird flew in from outside, circling the room before landing on his shoulder.
The bird affectionately nuzzled Doctor Mo's face, chirping happily.
"Alright, alright, I know you're hungry. Here, your favorite treat, a Yellow Nut." Doctor Mo's stern expression softened as he fed the bird a small yellow pellet from his pocket.
"Now go, follow that boy as you always do. If he leaves the mountain range, come back and tell me immediately," Doctor Mo instructed.
The bird chirped again, flying around the room before darting out the window and disappearing into the sky.
"With the Cloud Wing Bird, said to fly faster than the swiftest arrow, keeping an eye on you, let's see what kind of tricks you can pull," Doctor Mo murmured to himself.
"Four months, huh? I'll be waiting for that day. The plan is almost complete. Anyone who stands in my way now will be destroyed. If gods or demons try to stop me, I will crush them."
"Ha ha ha! Ha ha ha!" Doctor Mo burst into maniacal laughter, his eyes gleaming with madness.
Eli, meanwhile, was miles away, finding a secluded spot on the mountain to continue his intense training. He knew the clock was ticking, and every second counted. He had to be ready for the confrontation that would determine his fate.
With a newfound determination, Eli began his grueling regimen, pushing his body and mind to their limits. The weight of his impending battle with Doctor Mo hung over him like a dark cloud, but it also fueled his resolve. He would survive this ordeal, no matter the cost.
