Works Never End

"So what's next?" I asked Dove, curious about their plans for Lili.

"Well... I haven't decided anything for today... but good news, that brat is now going viral because of the fake debt, you know? And people are slowly leaving his company," Dove replied, a satisfied smile playing on her lips.

"Good, isn't it? We have one less competitor," Yolan said, leaning back in her chair.

I wonder how that date went? Did they break up? Though, I don't really care.

I observed everyone else chatting with Lili, asking if she was really a descendant of our ancestors. She confirmed that she was.

Ting! My phone buzzed with a notification.

As I opened the phone, my smile widened, seeing a message from Hanna.

[Hanna: Hey Xian! I'm already finished with training, how about you? How's your day?]

Slowly, I started to type a reply.

[Me: Ah, it's just ordinary life, you know. School, studying, and other stuff....]

It seemed that my relationship with Hanna was getting closer. If I hadn't seen the CCTV footage of the street that night, I might never have met her.

"Hey Xian..."

I startled at the sudden voice. It was Vill.

"Yeah?"

She showed me a news article on her phone. I took it to read.

Corruption by the government... again. Can't they ever get enough money? I thought, feeling a mix of frustration and disappointment.

"Why are you showing me this?" I asked, handing her phone back.

"Huh? You're the leader, shouldn't you take action?" Vill asked with a smile.

Dove walked closer, "What is it?"

Vill showed Dove the news article on her phone. "It's about another corruption scandal involving government officials," she explained. "They're embezzling funds meant for public infrastructure projects."

Dove's expression hardened as she read the article. "This is unacceptable," she said, her voice firm. "We can't let them get away with this."

"Then it's hero time?" I said, a spark of determination igniting in my eyes.

***

It was now the middle of the night again, and we were back in our superhero attire, this time with Lili joining us. She was wearing a suit I had created using my imagination, a same suite just like Yolan but more simple there's no spike or other accessory.

"This suit... it's so tight... can you loosen it, Xian?" she asked, fidgeting uncomfortably.

I nodded and imagined the suit loosening around her.

"Much better... now, why are we here again?" she added, looking around at the darkened city streets.

"We're going to expose the corrupt officials and retrieve the stolen funds," I explained, my voice filled with resolve. "We can't let them continue to exploit the people and jeopardize the future of our city."

"But how are we going to do that?" Lili asked, her eyes wide with curiosity. "They're powerful people. They won't go down without a fight."

IM smirked. "That's where we come in," he said, his voice brimming with confidence. "We'll use our powers to gather evidence, expose their crimes, and make sure they face justice."

Yolan cracked her knuckles, a predatory grin spreading across her face. "And if they try to resist, we'll just have to persuade them... the hard way."

I couldn't help but chuckle at her enthusiasm. It was clear that we were all eager to take action, to use our abilities for a cause greater than ourselves.

"Alright, team," Dove said, her voice commanding attention. "Let's go bring down some corrupt officials."

With a shared nod, we set off into the night, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

"Okay guys, let's leave the building... and start flying," Yolan said, her voice filled with anticipation.

The three of us nodded. We were still inside the WRA Company building, which was quiet now that the workers had left for the night.

"Yolan, you remember the place, right?" I asked.

"There's a map, of course, I know where it is. Just make us fly, Xian," she replied confidently.

The four of us can fly and control it easily, I imagined, focusing my power.

A familiar sensation of weightlessness enveloped us as we lifted off the ground, soaring into the night sky. The city lights stretched out below us, a dazzling tapestry of urban life. Yolan took the lead, effortlessly navigating us towards our destination.

"There it is," she pointed towards a cluster of opulent high-rises in the distance. "That's the residential complex where the corrupt official lives."

Bwooong! A familiar sound resonated in our ears.

The four of us stopped mid-flight.

"A ghost?" Lili asked, her voice tinged with apprehension.

IM nodded. "It is. How about we defeat it first?"

"No, stick to the plan. Ignore the ghost," Yolan said firmly, her gaze fixed on the distant high-rises.

IM hesitated for a moment, then reluctantly agreed. "Alright, but let's be quick. We don't want to waste any time."

We resumed our flight, the ghostly presence lingering at the edge of our awareness. As we approached the residential complex, Yolan pointed out a specific building. "That's the one," she said. "The penthouse on the top floor."

We landed on the roof of the building, our movements silent and swift. IM phased through the wall, scouting the interior.

"The coast is clear," he reported a few moments later. "The target is in his study, working on some documents."

"Perfect," Yolan said, a predatory grin spreading across her face. "Let's go teach him a lesson."

"So this is the house of the corrupt official? It's so tall and... expensive..." I said, looking down at the all-white house with tall pillars in front of the door.

"If I remember correctly, the corrupt official is the husband of a famous celebrity," Yolan replied.

"That explains the extravagance," IM commented dryly. "Let's just hope he's not home."

"He is," I said, my voice grim. "I can sense his presence inside."

Yolan cracked her knuckles, a determined glint in her eyes. "Then let's go pay him a visit."

We cautiously made our way towards the entrance, our movements silent and stealthy. The front door was locked, but that was no obstacle for IM. He phased through the solid wood, disappearing into the house.

A few moments later, he reappeared, a satisfied smirk on his face. "The alarm system is disabled," he reported. "We're in."

"How about the CCTV?" I asked, concerned about leaving any evidence.

"Already deactivated. I destroyed the hard drive so it can't be read anymore, and there's no footage of us," IM replied confidently.

"Great... you're leaving your mark," Yolan rolled her eyes playfully.

The three of us are invisible... I imagined, my power enveloping us once more.

"You know, I'm kinda jealous when other people have the same power as me..." Lili remarked before she too vanished from sight.

We entered the mansion, our invisible forms gliding silently through the lavishly decorated halls. The air was heavy with the scent of expensive perfume and polished wood, a testament to the wealth and extravagance of the corrupt official who resided here.

IM led the way, his familiarity with the layout guiding us through the maze of rooms and corridors. We ascended a grand staircase, our footsteps making no sound on the plush carpet. Finally, we reached the second floor and found ourselves standing before the study door.

IM carefully turned the doorknob, the door swinging open soundlessly. We entered the room, our eyes adjusting to the dim light cast by a single desk lamp. The corrupt official, a middle-aged man with a receding hairline and a smug expression, sat at his desk, engrossed in a pile of documents.

"There he is," Yolan whispered, her voice barely a breath.

I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest. It was time to put our plan into action.

I focused my imagination on the man, planting a suggestion in his mind. You feel an irresistible urge to confess your crimes, to reveal the truth about your embezzlement scheme.

The man's brow furrowed, a flicker of confusion crossing his face. He reached for his phone, his fingers trembling slightly as he turned on the camera.

You are going to say that you will be jailed because of what you've done... and upload the video publicly before you even realize what you're doing, first thing tomorrow morning, I imagined, reinforcing the suggestion.

The man's eyes glazed over, his expression becoming vacant as he succumbed to my suggestion. He cleared his throat, his voice raspy and filled with a strange sense of detachment.

"My name is Mateo Noor," he began, his words echoing in the silent study. "And I am a thief. I have stolen millions of rupiah from public funds, using them to finance my lavish lifestyle and my failing company, InnovTech."

He went on to detail his crimes, confessing to bribery, embezzlement, and fraud. He named his accomplices, revealed his methods, and even expressed a twisted sense of pride in his ability to evade the authorities for so long.

Yolan and I exchanged shocked glances. We hadn't expected him to be so forthcoming, so willing to expose his own corruption. It was almost as if he was possessed, his words spilling out of him like a dam bursting open.

IM, however, remained unfazed. He simply nodded, a satisfied smirk on his face. "Works every time," he whispered.

As Mateo's confession continued, I couldn't help but feel a pang of pity for him. He was a victim of his own greed, a puppet dancing to the strings of his own desires. But that didn't excuse his crimes, the harm he had caused to countless people.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Mateo's confession came to an end. He slumped back in his chair, his eyes vacant and his body trembling.
