CHAPTER ONE

Are you the type of person who wants to do something but can't? Like those who want to sing but are tone deaf. Wants to dance but a bad dancer. I'm one of those.

"Once again, Detective Sullivan arrested the wanted murderer. The city is back in peace"

An Article about my Father again. I looked up to my Dad who is one of the best detectives in our city. I admire his strength and resolution. I like how he catches bad people and protects the weak. I also want to become a detective, but I don't have the qualifications except being physically strong. I'm bad at critical thinking and have bad patience. Taking charge of a situation is a least thing I could do.

I sigh when I read the article. I put down my phone and stood up.

"I should get going. I'm gonna be late for school"

I left my room and went downstairs. My mother immediately welcomed me.

"Honey, sit down and have some breakfast before going to school" she said, and placed a plate with a toast and put some milk in my glass.

"Where's dad?' I asked as I sat on my chair.

"He had an emergency" Mom answered.

"He probably left because he didn't want to be bothered by asking about the latest case" my brother smirked. My pain in the ass Brother, Vincent laughs.

"MOM! Brother is talking nonsense again", I tattle. Mom scolded my brother. My brother just laughed.

My Brother, Vincent Sullivan, is a college student taking a business administration course. He will inherit my mom's business, which is a fashion business. My brother has been modeling since he was in high school.

I finished my breakfast. "I'll get going", I told my mom.

"I'll send you to school", my brother said, and went to get the car keys.

We went to the car and he immediately drove. While going to the destination, I asked him about Dad.

"Why did Dad have an emergency?" I asked.

"There was a dead body found under the bridge" he answered.

"Which bridge?"

"Before Dad left. He told Mom and I that we should not tell you where the crime scene happened. In case you'll do that stunt again." Brother laughs. I shrink because of embarrassment.

It was when I cut school just to see the crime scene and my Dad found me because the police arrested me thinking that I was a suspicious individual. My dad's colleagues were there and they will probably remember that. My image was ruined. It was so embarrassing.

"Don't try going there or else dad will ground you. Just wait for the news" Brother said.

I sigh. I will probably get punished if I do it again. Brother Drop me off at school.

"Be safe and don't cut school"

I ignored him and just went inside. My friends greeted me and we went to our classroom. All of the time I was in class, all of I think was the case my Dad is working right now. I was looking for my phone because there is probably some news right now.

"Where is my phone? Did I drop it in my brother's car?"

Oh! I left it on my bed. I slapped my forehead. Damn my stupidity.

The moment the bell rang for the last class, I went home without bidding goodbye to my friends. When I was home, Mom asked me about my day, and I just answered, "Just so-so." I went to my room to get my phone and opened it. I checked if there was any news, but none. I went to Mom, who was in the kitchen.

"Mom, Did you hear news from Dad?" I asked.

Mom replied, "No, honey, I haven't."

That's weird. Dad always informs Mom about the case, whether it is solved or ongoing. I shrugged my shoulders. Maybe Dad was just busy.

SIX DAYS went by, but Dad was still busy. He goes home late at night. Even if I stay awake, I can't catch up with him. I can't even listen to class properly because of sleepless nights.

"I heard your Dad didn't solve the case in Haddon Bridge, Veil." Javey, who had bad blood with me, spoke. Was the case in Haddon Bridge? "My Dad, who is a chief of police, told me about it" His smug face is annoying. He laughs. "looks like your Dad is getting old."

"Oh just shut your lousy mouth, Ugly Face," I irritably said.

"Looks like our dear Veil can't talk back now," Javey and his friends laugh.

Keep it cool, Veil. Nothing comes good from fighting Javey. I sigh, "Grow up, Javey."

Javey looked embarrassed after getting a point out of his childishness. Hah! That was so satisfying.

Well, back to the topic. Dad will never forget to inform Mom. I wonder if he didn't solve the case. Is it a serial killer? a psychopath? a rapist? AHH! I don't know!

I murmured "Haddon Bridge."

IT WAS the end of the class. Instead of going home, I went to the Haddon Bridge. It was just a one-way ride from school. As I arrived there, there was a barricade taped on the bridge. So, did the crime scene happen under the bridge? Or did the victim fall from the bridge? I went near it and was about to cross the barricade tape when a man stopped me.

"Young lady, you can't go inside." The man's voice. I looked at who it was. It's a 60-year old man.

"Ah! I was just curious. "I scratched my head and tried not to be so suspicious.

"Don't go inside. Instead, I will just tell you, "The man said. My eyes lit up. "Ah, I'm Alfredo, I live near here," he added.

We went to the nearest bench. He started talking the moment we sat down.

"The incident happened six days ago. It was 5 o'clock in the morning when a woman was walking with blood all over her. She climbs up on the bridge while crying. "

"No one stops her? I mean, most people are probably awake already." I said.

"People did, including me. But as if some force was guiding her, she wouldn't bugde. " he sighed. "We did everything, but when she climbed up, she cried really hard. She didn't say anything and just cried."

"And the police?" I asked.

"They arrived before she jumped," he answered. "The most shocking part is that when the police arrived, she moved as if she had been shot."

"What?"

He nodded, "Hmm, there's no gunshot or anything, she was shot by an unknown force."

This looks like a lie. Is this a prank? I think he read to much fantasy. This man is suspicious.

"You know what's creepy? I heard she was 2 hours dead before she jumped," he said.
