MALLORY'S POV
As the water poured down on me, I couldn't help but think about all that has happened so far. From that psycho kidnapping me and something else about my mom. How weird can this day get? After the shower, I dried myself up and put on some comfy clothes. I went to Dad's office. He was seated behind his desk and he stared at a picture. He didn't even notice my presence.
"Dad? I'm here now."
"Oh darling have a seat."
I sat down and watched as Dad adjusted himself to sit on his chair.
"Mallory, your mom wasn't who you think she was."
Dad paused for a minute. It was as if he was contemplating on what to say next. He took a deep breath and looked at me.
"When I first met your mother, she seemed like a very interesting and fascinating woman. She had her own rules and was also confident and outgoing. I didn't know who she truly was..."
I could feel my heart beat fast in my chest. Dad looked like he didn't want to recall his past. It looks like it was very painful for him.
"... I only found out when we were already married. I was deeply in love with her so I decided to be a part of that life which she lead. It wasn't her choice to live that life."
"I don't understand Dad. What life are you talking about?"
" Your mother was involved with very illegal activities like drug trafficking and all. She was a boss in the underworld."
"Y-you mean my Mom was a bad person?"
"No Mallory. Infact she was a very nice person. She tried to stop cruel underworld dealers. But what did that bring her? It cost her, her life."
Dad lowered his head. Tears pricked my eye lids. This couldn't be.
"But Dad you told me Mom died in a car accident."
"I'm sorry. I couldn't bring myself to tell you."
"No it's impossible Dad. That night when you came home you said she was in a car accident and you didn't want me to go to her funeral."
"Mallory, you were still young, I couldn't tell you all about your Mom. I didn't want to make your childhood difficult."
I suddenly felt enraged. I couldn't take it anymore. It's too much for me.
"How could this be happening to me?!!!"
I suddenly felt dizzy. I got out of Dad's office and into the hallway. I met Maria at the door, it seemed she was listening to our conversation. She flushed and wanted to talk to me.
"Umm... Mallory calm down."
"Please I just want to be left alone."
I hurried to my room and slammed my door shut. I quickly took out my suitcase and started packing my stuff. I can't stay another second in this house, it reminds me of Mom so much.
When I was done, I rolled out my suitcase into the hallway. Dad was just standing there. His eyes were red. He rushed over to me.
"Where are you going Mallory? You can't just leave."
"I believe I can. I'm an adult and I have the right to do what I want."
Dad just stared at me speechless. I rolled my suitcase till the door. I turned back and saw Dad's stare. It made me want to stay so bad but I had to go. It was all too much for me. Now I just wanna sort things out in my head. I needed a clear mind.
"Bye Dad."
I went out of the house and took one of the other cars in the garage. I decided to lodge at our family cabin. We never visited it often.
When I got there, I was welcomed by the cool evening breeze. Even though it was late at night, I could see the beauty of the house as fireflies lit up the surrounding. The place was breath taking. I rolled my suitcase into the house and lit up the lights.
After I arranged all my stuff, I went to my room and sat down on the bed.
*No this can't be. Mom can't be involved in this. She wouldn't hurt a fly.*
All the memories of Mom flashed in my mind like crazy. She was so sweet, she loved spending time with me. She taught me not to act like a spoilt brat. Mom was a perfect mother. All my friends admired her, how could she be involved with such harsh business transactions.
My eyes watered as I thought about it. If only I could turn back the events of today, I would never have set foot in that grocery store. I wish I was oblivious to the truth. I tucked my self under the covers. I just couldn't sleep. My train of thoughts took me all night long.
