The Library

Ares had considered looking at the magic circles in the library but they were in the restricted area and he was required to complete several missions for the guild before being allowed access. He therefore directed himself to books about the magic hierarchy, he didn't understand what magic levels were. This was a relatively new book and was a commonly available to most. Having glanced by the first few pages Ares began to immerse himself in the learning process. A page he read with clear interest was the classification page it detailed the various levels of magic and provided explanations. He read attentively-

Magic binds all humans, there are magic particles in the air we breathe. The various levels indicate the amount of these particles that can be absorbed and used by the mage, each rank except the first is split into the lower, mid and high ranks each rank having vast difference in strength between them. They are as follow.

Mortal- Someone who had no capacity for magic. Life expectancy 50-60 years.

Apprentice- Someone who had been recruited to a magic institution and displayed the capacity for magic but had not undergone any formal training. Spell capacity low.

Novice- a lowly trained mage with several magical spells in their skillset. They are the most common of magicians and often dark guild members do not exceed this level. Spell capacity low.

Adept- an experienced mage who understands the beginning of magic, there spells can range in power sometimes providing enough to destroy beasts of the wilds depending on their supporting attribute. Spell capacity low- medium.

Spellcaster- The spellcaster is the first of the formal ranks following training, these people have the ability to use their attribute wisely casting powerful spells and easily destroying small buildings. After advancing to this level the life expectancy of the mage rises by around 100 years, their body will become slightly tougher having the resistance of thick leather but remaining the age of the breakthrough in appearance. Spell capacity medium.

Wizard- The wizard is a powerful individual, valued throughout the world for their wide array of spells and abilities, a well experienced wizard could easily change the fate of a battle with large scale spells. After advancing to this level the life expectancy of the mage rises by another 150 years, their body will become tougher still having resistance rivalling thin rock, they will however retain the appearance of breakthrough in appearance. Spell capacity medium to high.

Warlock- Warlocks are renowned for their battle prowess, a single warlock can easily assist with large scale wars due to their huge understanding of the various spells that they can use. The more spectacular warlocks had been known to isolate themselves from contact of humans lest there be another demon war should they come out. After advancing to this level the life expectancy of the mage rises by another 200 years, their body will become tougher having resistance rivalling a steel sheet, they will however retain the appearance of breakthrough in appearance. Spell capacity high-

Magician- The Magician is a spectacular figure in the world, their unrivalled knowledge ensures that they can wander anywhere without hinderance. Moving small seas, creating landmass and vaporising cities is not beyond their power. After advancing to this level the life expectancy of the mage rises by another 500 years, their body will become tougher still having resistance rivalling magical alloy, they will however retain the appearance of breakthrough in appearance. Spell capacity overlord-

Arch-Magician- this is someone at the pinnacle of magic, these people have such vast understanding of their related attribute and general spells that almost nothing is impossible for them to complete. The movement of cities, destruction of mountains and vast arrays are within their grasp. The information about these people is unknown however it is estimated that their life expectancy increases by at the least another 750 years and that their body will likely only be harmed by similarly powerful mages or magical weapons of the highest grade. Spell capacity unknown-

It is also important to note as the body becomes saturated by magical particles changes will occur. Besides the described age-related increase movement and bodily resistance too increases.

Ares found the book fascinating and after absorbing lots of information he understood much more about magic. Thinking to himself he thought about Magician Beckett the man who had tested his talent, he seemed to be almost all powerful. That man had the power to destroy whole cities. Ares breathed a sigh of relief that he hadn't upset him.

After glancing through another book Ares found out that there was an independent organization who certified the rise in ranks. They had one base in every city and were completely independent of guilds. This organization was known as the grey tower. Their staff consisted of people who volunteered from different guilds. Without verifying your rank raise you could not use the title of the magic rank you had obtained or get the associated benefits.

Ares probably was at the low level of apprentice at this point, this was a beginning. Seeing that his potential could almost be limitless he was excited. The whole day disappeared with Ares and the others immersing themselves deeply in the knowledge at their fingertips. After finishing all of them made their way wearily back to their dormitories and fell into deep sleeps. Ares was lucky that by the time he returned the others including Victor were already fast asleep.
