I failed that girl and you Lisa

Lisa was scared to leave me so she held me by the hand leading me into her room. She sat me on her bed and took her phone from the dressing table. She didn't know what to do or say, she kept scrolling and staring at her phone for a while and then later remembered what doctor Flo had told her. She gave her sleeping tablets and they were meant for emergencies like these. So she pretended to call doctor Flo, unlocked the safe where she kept all pills, and gave them to me.

"While we wait you may have these pills they can help with the hangover."

I drank the pills and without me realizing I had fallen into a deep sleep. After I had slept Lisa sat on the bed close to me, staring at my face like someone who was reading words written on it. She took a deep breath and began to run her fingers into my hair.

(Thinking out loud, caressing my face and whispering) 'You should see how peaceful and beautiful you look when you are sleeping. So innocent, how I wish the heavens were merciful because you do not deserve whatever you are going through. I guess you would want to stay like this forever but life is not like that. There are losses, gains, or even more tribulations, which makes it unique and beautiful in its way, its bitter-sweet. (tearing) It breaks my heart watching you suffer like this and yet you refuse to share your burdens with me. Why Tasha, why do you bottle everything up, why don't you trust me? We have been staying together for about two years and it's just now when you decided to be close to me and now you want to be selfish. If you erase your memories that means I will not have a chance to know you up close and personal, don't you think for someone who has been there for these two years that's unfair. I know you are hurting but I am not asking too much, just let me into your heart.'

Lisa was so much lost in thoughts that she had almost forgotten what had happened earlier. She was then brought back to reality by her phone that was ringing. She took it from the dressing table and decided to answer it from the lounge. She didn't want to wake me up also she wanted to avoid the chances of me hearing her conversation.

"Hey Lisa, you took so long to answer is everything okay?"

"Hi, doc what's up? I was looking forward to calling you but I got lost in thoughts."

"Nothing serious, you good? You do not sound, okay?"

(Taking a long deep breath) "There is fire on the mountain, Tasha wants her memories erased, especially those from the past."

(Stunned) "Huh!"

"Yeah, I couldn't even manage to talk her out of it, she was throwing a huge tantrum and I had no option but to give her the sleeping tablets you gave me. Honestly doc, I think she is about to go bananas."

"Oh my God, not again."

"Huh, did something like this happen before?"

"When Anne left you with Tasha, what exactly did she tell you?"

"She only said that she went through hell six years ago and that she wasn't going to get into detail because she didn't want me to judge her, hurt her, and the lesser I know, the better, and if Tasha was willing she will tell me everything about herself one day."

"I see, anyway, something more than that happened in the past and she was once admitted to the psychiatric, which is why Anne was always nagging about her taking her health and sessions seriously."

"I don't want to express how disappointed I am, but not giving me just a short brief about such important details, that was so wrong of Anne, at least she should have told me just a little, am I that bad? Anyway, what exactly happened to Tasha in the past doc also is it possible to erase her memories forever?"

"Well, I do not know much, the information that she used to give during her sessions is so vague and I'm not so sure if most of it is true. Another thing, even if I knew anything I can not tell you because that is against my job's ethics. About erasing her memories it is possible but sometimes memories have their way of coming back to you and once that happens it will be unbearable. Do you have any idea what made things escalate?"

"Mhmm, I'm not so sure because yesterday she went to grab a bite during lunch break, then all of a sudden she called in sick, I didn't read much into it. I just thought she was feeling unwell that's why she decided not to come back to work. Only to receive a call from the police…"

Lisa explained the previous day's events as well as those of the current day.

(Worried) "What do you think we should do doc?"

(Sigh) "I also don't know Lisa, I think for a better way forward we should call Anne, she knows Tasha more than we do and I am sure she may have a better answer. Do not hang this call make a group call."

Lisa did just as doctor Flo had advised and Anne didn't take time to pick up the call.

Anne: (Sarcastic) Hehehehehe, the sun will rise from the West tomorrow, a certain someone vowed…

Lisa: Cut the crap, we don't have your time, there is trouble…

Doctor Flo: Hi Anne…

Anne: Sup Flo, Lisa I'm listening what's popping?

Lisa: Tasha wants her memories about the past erased though she didn't specify which ones but I guess the most painful and bad ones.

Anne: (Relaxed, not as surprised as everyone expected), what happened?

Lisa explained just as she had explained to doctor Flo before.

Anne: I am 100 percent against the idea of erasing her memories, the genesis of Tasha's problems doesn't exist in her mind but in her heart. If it is possible to erase both memories and emotions forever without implications then count me in if not then no way.

Lisa: (Annoyed by Anne's long talk) So what should we do? I need a solution, the pill that I gave her is going to lose effect soon and I have no idea what will happen when she wakes up, stop wasting time.

Anne: Calm down…

Lisa: I am very calm right now…

Doctor Flo: Hey idiots stop fighting, Anne we called you so that you can help us with a solution so go ahead we are listening.

Anne: (Feeling sad and guilty) I failed that girl and you Lisa, I shouldn't have left just like that. I think I should take your previous advice, it's about time I come back home.

Lisa: Very well then, but we still have a problem. It takes almost two days for you to reach this side, how am I going to handle the situation before you get here? Also, that reminds me, Tasha said that if it wasn't for you she wouldn't be suffering in this God-forsaken world, what did you do?

Anne: Doctor Flo should come up with a lie that will buy me some time, as for what she said it's because in the past she tried to commit suicide by drowning and I happened to save her. For some time, she hated me for that, a day would not pass without her cursing me until she stopped. I thought she had forgiven me and gotten over it, I guess I was wrong.

Lisa: We have a serious problem.

Doctor Flo: This is so bad.

Anne: I know, and I am going to do everything, by all means, to make things right so I will see you guys in two days bye.

Anne hung up, doctor Flo and Lisa continued with the call trying to put their heads together and come up with a lie that I couldn't be able to see through. Later I woke up feeling tired and my head was kind of heavy. I looked around and realized that I wasn't in my room, Lisa was sleeping on the sofa and she was woken by my movements.

"You are awake, go and take a shower, I will prepare food for you."

I didn't say anything, I just nodded as I headed to my room, I took a quick shower, got dressed, and headed to the kitchen. I sat on one of the kitchen chairs by the kitchen table and began to dish some food for myself. I wasn't in any mood to eat but for the sake of peace, I had to. I just took a few spoons of food and ended up poking the food without eating, I was lost in thoughts.

(Looking worried and more concerned) "A penny for your thoughts?"

I didn't say anything, I just sighed, stopped what I was doing leaned on the chair, and zoned out again. I had happened to hear what Lisa was whispering to me earlier, though it seemed like I was dreaming, the dream was so real and I recognized her voice. This kept me thinking if I was doing the wrong thing and if I was indeed ungrateful and selfish. I took a deep breath and looked at Lisa who was still staring at me, I felt pity for her, she happened to be stuck with a stranger whom she knows little about, and refuses to cut her some slack. A stranger who is determined to either die or erase her memories, a stranger who doesn't want to open her heart. I then decided that before I take any step further at least I should grant her the favor to know what she is so eager to know. What she will do after that will be her business.
