Chapter 13

Opal pov

They left me here! They told me to watch the blue bird. I don't want to do that! The elders have the button so I can't leave. I'm watching her as this big scary looking man and the blinds shut. I have been stuck leaning against the wall for what Feels like 25 hours!!! I can't even walk in and act as if i know her, there are two giant men in front of the door. My wings and head feathers are dropping in boredom.

"This is so boring!" I mumble. I am sitting in the alley with my legs out.

My leathery tail flicking while I am lost in thought.. I stand, my hand still on the wall, and I go to see if they have moved yet. They have not. Why are they here still! I walk back

"Hey, what are you doing kid?"

"AHHH!!" I jump up and try to fly away forgetting about the collar i wore. I remembered about it when it shocked me and I fell screaming in pain while holding the collar to get it off.

"Hey kid you good?!?!"

He pulls me back and I try to reach the wall I was meant to keep touching. He saw this and pushed me to it. The second I touch it they shut off the collar. I crouch down in both fear and pain. I am still leaning against the wall. I began to cry. Why wont they let me leave! I'm not of use to them anymore! I sit on the floor with my legs to my chest.

"Hey kid what's up with you? And what's that collar?"

"It hurts.." I mumble. Turning my face away in shame.

"What do you mean? And don't worry kid i won't hurt you."

"I dont believe you… but the collar.. It hurts me…"

"Can I take a look?"

I nod slowly. Still not trusting him. He seems like he wants to help.. I move my already thin hair out of the way.

"Hm, it looks like leather. I bet I could cut it off."

I stare at him in disbelief. "..What..?

" yeah, tho it's a little thick it would take a little."

He pulls out something pointy, reaches for the collar and cuts the collar off. It falls to the ground

"There we go."

I begin to cry out of relief. I can finally leave them! I'm not stuck in one place anymore!! I flap my wings fly for a second and i then Fly into him

"Oh Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you" I say as i tackle him, both falling to the ground

"You're very welcome."

I get up when I hear someone stepping closer.

Carbon POV

I sit up brushing some dirt off when the kid jumps back onto me. I hug the kid seeing taro standing there with a very confused expression upon his face.

"He's scary!"

"Don't worry, it's just my boss." I look back at taro. "Im keeping the kid." He nods at me then leaves. I stand up still holding the kid.

"You're going to stay with me from now on."

"You're not gonna give me back to the elders?"

"No. You're living with me now. I'm going to be like your dad i guess."

"Yay..! What's that mean?"

"Honestly I don't know. We would need to ask someone else."

"Alright!" I walked away from the building still holding the kid. I walk into the base putting her on a chair.

"Whats your name kid?"
