Chapter 46

“Yes. I’ll contact them. Do you mind if I call now? This is weird as hell. I thought maybe he was going to just say he and his wife divorced or something. I never thought it would be something like this,” Evan says, searching for his cell phone.

“Call them. I’ll go make us coffee.” Rene gets up and leaves Evan to his phone call.

A little later, Rene comes back with two cups of coffee, and gets into bed with Evan, who’s looking troubled.

“Did you manage to talk to him?” Rene asks.

“No. I spoke to his old boss. He gave his notice a week ago. Didn’t explain why or where he was going. He just left. From what they can tell, he’s disappeared from the face of the earth.”

“Maybe you should report this to the police. The note’s kind of threatening,” Rene says. He doesn’t like this at all. He finds he cares a lot more than he’d expect he would care about a human, but then, he’s seen over and over again that he cares about Evan, despite not knowing him long and him being a human.
