Rene won’t be easy to deal with in the hospital. He’ll probably scare Evan off within a day. Nanook had better warn Evan. “Okay, if you think he’s the best for the job, I won’t argue.” Most of what Nanook knows about Rene is rumor, so he’s hoping Rene isn’t as bad as he seems and that his fears are unfounded.
“I’ll talk to Rene. You talk to your human friend. I want these children well as much as you do,” Damon says, and Nanook believes him. Damon might be an intolerant man, a little too power hungry, but he’s not the kind of man who would want to see children die, especially not cat children, or kittens, from his own town. “Try and get him here quick, and let me know when and where he’ll be arriving. I’ll have Rene meet him,” Damon says, and Nanook stands, taking back the file he’d thought he might need to convince Damon.
