Chapter 28
“Don’t let it go to your head.” Rene rolls his eyes and just keeps eating.
“I won’t get the chance, not with the way you shoot me down.” Evan laughs.
They move on to safer topics, things they can talk about with people around, so not the case or the fact they’ve ended up getting each other off several times. Evan talks a little about his work, and how he’s trying to find treatment and cures for illnesses that don’t yet have a guarantee fix. Rene tells Evan a little about the town, and what it’s like to live in an all-Felis town.
Once they’ve finished lunch, they drive across town to a playground some of the kids had been using before they got sick. Evan takes more samples, then tries to ask some parents questions, but they don’t seem willing to talk to him, so Rene gets up off the bench he’s been sitting on and joins Evan.
