Chapter 01: The Awakening(01)

U.S Army barracks, Room 8, Santa Monica Beach, Southern California, USA, Earth

June 3rd, 0017 PA(Post Awakening(2037 CE)); 23:00(Pacific Standard Time)

A head of long black hair lay across a pair of tan forearms resting on a desk. It was attached to a petite 140 cm tall girl wearing a maroon t-shirt and black yoga pants, her feet dangling from the office chair she sat on.

"AHH! I don't want to do this… Why do I even need to know this stuff? I mean seriously I'm an S+ rank. I can fly 6 times the speed of sound, and make hurricanes. You would think they would give me an extra couple of days to do this since the strongest guy on the planet and the president asked for my help."

As she sat up one could see a pretty young face with arching black eyebrows accompanied by silver eyes. 

" Well I might as well get to it…"

The girl took a wide pink bracelet off her wrist and rolled it flat on the desk. She then tapped the center of it causing a red holographic keyboard to appear in front of it, about 2 cm above and parallel to the table. At the same time a 50 cm holographic screen appeared perpendicular to the holo-device.

She swiped up on the holo display with her finger. Tapping on an icon that resembled a piece of green paper with one of  the top corners folded over 

Then she froze…. "10% power?"

 Reaching over to the bed she grabbed her backpack, dug out a charging cord and plugged it into the wall and her device.. "Really glad I brought the long cable."

Turning the chair to once again face the desk, she began typing.

The Awakening

On December 1st, 2019 CE  A sound could be heard by every living being on the planet. Soon started off as a hum, then a whine and then a brain piercing screech. Every creature in the world collapsed. Planes crashed, every occupied highway in the world became a tragedy, and people died on operating tables for the next hour until the sound just… Stopped. 

Once the "sound" stopped, people and animals started getting up; along with every creature that died in the past hour that still had its brain intact.

This resulted in various problems…

The zombie apocalypse that most would dread and fear didn't quite happen, as all those "zombies" were either killed or starved to death over the next few weeks. The basic infrastructure, ie, power, water, sewers, and the internet; were all still mostly intact. Though there was a world wide stock market crash and some serious inflation issues for 2 or 3 years.

After around a year, other than the whole tragic deaths, everyone felt great. The elderly got some pep back in their step, dementia and Alzheimer patients regained their mental faculties, allergies seemed to not even be a thing anymore, and many conditions such as bone, organ, and immune system disorders became a thing of the past.

Animals around the world started getting bigger and stronger. Many species also started breeding faster.  Sixty percent of the population started popping up with powers, like enhanced strength,  speed, and durability. These along with abilities  like throwing fire and lightning or manipulating the wind, water or ground started popping up. 

After a while people figured out you could get a lot stronger and faster than before the "Awakening" happened.

Mia fell asleep on her keyboard around 2 AM. Drooling on the table top until she was startled awake by the sound of klaxons ripping her out of her dreams.

Santa Monica Beach, Southern California, USA, Earth

June 4th, 0017 PA; 05:40(PST)

Klaxons sounded along the beach.

"Supreme, heads up! It's coming!" a voice came across the earpiece of a man floating in the air above the beach. The man was 210 cm tall with dark brown hair, ridged handsome features of a man in his early 30's, and a heavily muscled physique. He was dressed in a kevlar and Nomex mesh gray compression suit with pale blue outer sleeves and legs. 

He gazed out across the still dark ocean with his steel gray eyes. Seeing a massive figure near the horizon charging towards the coast under the water following an increasingly large wave. Supreme squinted and then frowned. Pressing a button on the microphone band wrapped around his neck. "Everyone be ready. There's a flood of sea beasts being forced this way by that thing." 

A girl appeared beside him. Standing all of 140 cm tall with a slender build, wearing black yoga pants, an oversized maroon t-shirt and fuzzy red slippers, her waist length black hair flowing in the wind. She rubbed her silver eyes and yawned, "Why do they have to do this so early in the morning? I've still got a history report to finish.". 

Supreme looked at the 12 year old girl then shook his head, "I'm really sorry you have to do this Mai. If there was any other way…" 

Looking at the man who had shown up and asked her family for her help 2 days ago, "Mr. Supreme, I just have to stop the little ones right? What's the big deal?"

He looked past her at the thousands of people manning the wall running nearly 650 km that had been erected over the last 3 years. Then looking back out at the horde of creatures that was still 80 km away that stretched out to the horizon.

"If we can't stop this, everyone in southern California may be dead by this time tomorrow. It's a lot of pressure. I believe in you though. I've got the big one, just stop the rest from getting through then we can go get some ice cream."

Mai's jaw dropped, she stared at the back of the man's head. "Will they really all die if I can't stop them?" 

Supreme didn't turn back around; he simply replied, "Unfortunately, yes.". Then shot forward towards the onrushing creature that was like a moving hill at the back of the horde.

BOOOOOOM!!!!

An explosion sounded at the horizon accompanied by a 2 km wide flash of lightning that arced out of the ocean into the air. A blast of air pressure shot towards the coast, clearing the cloudy sky, bringing with it a 2 km tall 40 km wide wave carrying thousands of giant sea creatures with it.

This was followed by consecutive explosions. The resulting blasts of air pressure caused the wave to gain momentum and a fierce wind to flow along with the rushing wave.

The little girl flew out spreading her arms out to her sides. She pulled the water and air for tens of kilometers along the coast toward the onrushing wave causing a 40 km wide hurricane and reverse tsunami to form. Her eyes glowed with silver and blue light as she brought her hands together, the water and wind surging forward before slamming into the oncoming disaster. 

The result was… violent. Due to the wave and wind being blasted forward at multiple times the speed of sound. The oncoming wave of water and flesh was completely shredded causing everything within to be torn into a fine mist flowing up into the air raining down on the coast and nearby cities. 

This resulted in a storm of bloodstained water covering most of the southern california coastline. The 'rain only' lasted 10 minutes, but due to what happened that day; people would end up referring to Mai as "Bloodwind"  in the future.
