Chapter LXIII - Dice (part 6)

The news about a high nobleman's manor got attacked spread like a wildfire. A lot of the nobles and high ranking people blamed the guards that were stationed for not putting up good security.

But since it was attacked by a highly trained assassin, not even the elite knights in the kingdom can deal with it easily.

The family of Hilva didn't seem to be quite shaken. This is because most of their family members were away from the house when the event happened. The only ones who remained in their home was the wife and the fifth daughter, as well as the daughter's friends who were coming over.

The head of the family, Sir Lance Hilva, was away when the attack occurred. But he came back as soon as he heard the news. He mentioned that he will do everything he can to assist in the take down of these assassins. And that he also mentions that whoever sent assassins to their household will pay.

The damage done to the manor was mainly focused on the front field, while the building itself was only damaged slightly on the first floor. Something like this is manageable, for a family as big as the Hilva family.

It was said that the assassin managed to defeat all the guards stationed at the gate, and that he was extremely powerful according to one of the guards.

It was not clear who managed to defeat the assassin, but many witnesses including the lady of the house Madam Julia Hilva, mentioned that her daughter who was present on the attack is a high ranking adventurer. She concluded that the one who defeated such a dangerous assassin was her daughter, and the news can only accept that.

Questions have been asked throughout the entire kingdom. People started to ask why an assassin would attack a high noble mansion, and who really defeated him.

A lot of them even threw out rumours, such as the assassin was actually going to assassinate the lady Hilva herself, but was stopped by another party.

And until today, none of those rumours has been proven, nor the questions have been answered.

Instead, a new piece of news was announced. The Adventurers Office had announced that they will be aiding in the investigation, per request of the daughter of the Hilva family, Valey Hilva, the Blue ranked adventurer.

.

Three days later.

A man in the hood is strolling through the western main road. He wore a mask that nobody knows of.

After walking under the bright sunlight, he stops himself right in front of a barbershop. He stared at it for a few seconds before entering.

KRING!

The sound of the bell means that the door has been opened. The barbers, all looking strong and muscular, stared at the person who just entered with wide eyes.

They can only watch as the person walks past them and enters the back door. They all stared at each other in confusion when the person disappeared behind the door.

The masked man walked up the stairs and arrived in a lobby. There was no one in the lobby, except for him and the shocked receptionist.

"W-Wha, You-Dice!?"

The old receptionist quickly gestured to his left, where a door is at. He opened the door and showed the masked man, Dice, the inside.

When Dice walked in, the person inside the room immediately stood up.

"W-Wha! You!..."

Dice did not say anything. He simply walked forward and entered the room. The old receptionist closed the door, leaving Dice and the boss alone.

"How the hell are you alive!? You even failed to kill the target!"

The boss uttered those words as he tried to keep himself calm and seated down, but the masked man did not reply. The boss's patience became thin.

"I asked you... Why did you fail to kill the target?"

Dice is still silent.

Seeing that Dice is not answering, the boss lets out a sigh and stares sharply at him.

"Your target is a very important one... Our client had paid us too much money for you to fail. So I ask again, why-"

"Who is our client?"

The heavy voice can be heard from behind the mask. Hearing the heavy voice, the boss began feeling worried and startled. He had no choice but to answer.

"Whatever your reason for asking, I'm sure you are dying to know."

The boss turned his back and grabbed a file. He returned to the masked man and gave the file.

"This is the file about the mission request. Everything you need to know is there."

The masked man opened the file of papers and read it. Silence occurred in the room's atmosphere while he read. Even the boss had to wait until he finished reading.

"Yep. This is good evidence."

The boss immediately became dumbfounded when Dice's voice changed and became so light.

The man called 'Dice' lifted his right hand towards the boss. The boss, who was taken aback by the sudden change in the situation, screamed as his body received a heavy attack from a blue fire, a King tier fire magic.

The boss slowly looked back at the masked man, who had taken off his mask. Behind the mask, a wide grin can be seen.

"Greetings! My name is Jonus. A White ranked adventurer. Nice to meet you, oh leader of the Federation!"

.

.

.

"The take down of the Assassin's Federation office in the Mazino Kingdom has gone smoothly.

The mission alone is top secret, only the hand picked adventurers and knights were called to aid in the mission.

The main core of this mission is the White ranked adventurer, Jonus Brocker, who disguised himself as one of the high ranking assassins in order to infiltrate and took it down from the inside.

While on the outside, twelve adventurers from three different teams, as well as multiple elite knights handpicked by the knight general himself, had worked together to take down the office through the front door.

Civilians outside the barbershop on the western main road had been evacuated right after Jonus, disguised as Dice, entered the barbershop.

As a result, zero casualties came from the adventurers and knights, and managed to capture sixteen assassins on standby inside the federation office.

This secret mission was planned secretly by the head of the adventurer's Office, Valon Mazino, and the knight general, who was requested to aid the mission by the head of the Hilva family. The two picked their own men to do the mission, and even sent Jonus Brocker, a White ranked adventurer as a disguised assassin to infiltrate the defenses.

This successful mission was done as a response to the attack by the assassins at the Hilva family manor three days ago. And thanks to this super secret mission, The Mazino Kingdom had cleared itself from the roots of assassins."

Valon stopped reading the newspaper and slammed it to the table.

Me and Klane, who was listening to him inside his office, just stared at each other returning confused looks.

Valon looked at the atmosphere and put on an awkward expression.

"What's wrong? We took down the roots of assassins in the kingdom! Come on, be proud, god damn it!"

To Valon, this is a large achievement. Assassins are one of the problems that exist in any kingdom. And the fact that Mazino was able to cleanse itself from that problem, is an amazing fact.

And the one holding the key to the victory, is the Adventurers Office.

Us.

"Zero casualties, sixteen assassins captured, and we have a whole lot of paper files regarding the assassins on the Federation. We now know everything about them. I could say this mission is a clear success."

Yesterday, I was part of the team set outside. Seconds after we evacuated the civilians, the first squad from the elite knights quickly entered the barbershop and quickly met with a half a dozen assassins. They fought their best, but they fled in order to lure them outside. When six assassins ran out, they realized it was a trap.

You could say that a bunch of adventurers simply feasted on those six poor bastards. Because right outside their lair, are twelve adventurers waiting calmly to whoop their asses.

The rest of the take down went smoothly. Jonus wreaked havoc from the inside, which makes it easier for us to disorient the enemies. Some of these assassins are actually high ranking ones, but Fran and Hod took them down. Me and the others from my team took down a high ranking assassin, and everyone else captured the rest.

All in all, it was a pretty fun and smooth mission. Assassins are indeed weak when they are spotted.

The space magic ring that Dice gave me was actually everything we needed to find out everything about the assassins location. The only thing we couldn't find is one thing, and that thing is the reason why Jonus had to infiltrate. And now, the master is going to discuss it.

"Now, about the person who sent assassins after me, and after Rize. The one who sent the contract. The knights are heading to apprehend them as we speak."

For someone who is said to be 'incapable of staying annonymous', Jonus infiltrated the Federation using Dice's identity just fine.

He's just multi-talented, i guess?

Tomorrow's the final day and the final chapter of season 2. More to be said on the author note at the end of the chapter. See ya~!
