Chapter CVI - Magic Aptitude Class (part 1)

I kept on glancing at the clock so that we wouldn't miss the next class.

And when it's only five minutes away from 1, I quickly closed my book.

"It's almost class."

Jericho turned around and looked at the clock behind her on the wall, then she nodded as she closed her book as well.

"Right… we shouldn't be late again."

We quickly prepared the books. Manda and Jericho returned their books to the bookshelves, while I took my books to the librarian for borrowing.

"Y-You can borrow books?"

"Yeah. You don't know?"

Manda's face blushed red as she turned around and retake her book from the bookshelf. After borrowing the books, I placed them on my card's space so that I wouldn't have to look for it in my space ring.

We went to the class after that. And since the class is fairly close, we are not late. The next class is the magic aptitude class, and the teacher isn't here yet.

I went to my seat and took out the book I was reading when I was in the library. It was about weapon augmentation. The way you insert magic into your weapons and then use the weapon just like a part of your body.

I actually did this multiple times with my orcish sword back when I still had it (I still felt bad after losing it). I used to throw fire slashes with it easily, and now it's gone.

I'm looking for a way to augment shadow magic to the weapon. If fire magic is capable of burning things, shadow magic is capable of reinforcing, like an armour. So it's… technically useless for weapons.

Unless, for my knights sword. It's already chipped so badly that I think it could break any second in battle. If I augment it with shadow magic, maybe it could serve as a reinforcement, and maybe an even stronger weapon.

The shadow magic on a weapon could also become a strengthening. But, this could be done even without using weapons.

So, in conclusion, shadow magic can only be used for armour and reinforcing. It's useless for weapons.

Or so the book says.

Maybe I can find other uses for shadow magic… who knows.

I closed the book and inserted it into my card again. And just when I'm about to put out my next book, the teacher entered the room.

"Sorry I'm late! I was having a meeting with the headmaster."

Wow.

The teacher... looked like an actual scientist.

She had a lab coat on, and she wore round glasses. Her hair was braided on the back and on her arm is a single large book.

"Right. So, we will be checking your attendance first."

The teacher started to call out the names of the students. And when she arrived on my name, she suddenly called me.

"Oh, you are the new student."

"Yes. That's… me."

"Could you come to the front for a second, please?"

"Y-Yes?"

She turned around and summoned an item from her magic ring. And just when I was about to walk forward, I recognized the item. It's the magic tool measurement, capable of showing your magic points, as well as your magic capabilities.

"T-Teacher, that's…"

"Come on, don't be shy. Everyone else has done this."

I took a gulp of my saliva deeply, then I continued my move forward. When I arrived in front of the teacher, I stared at her for a few seconds, rendering her confused.

"W-What? What is it?"

"Teacher, I don't want to do this."

She got taken aback by my answer.

"B-But everyone else had done this! This is just for--"

"A magic measurement. Capable of showing one's magic points, as well as magic affinities.

And... I'm not comfortable in revealing my number."

"T-That's…"

No one else is saying a thing. They were all curious about my magic points and abilities, but they didn't dare to say anything.

I also learned that everyone has the right to hide their magic points. No one should be entitled to reveal their magic points unless for an emergency, which rarely happens.

Knowing this, I am determined to always reject every chance anyone asks for my magic points amount. Including right now.

"B-But this is for scoring! I need to know the growth of your magic points every week so that I can score it!"

The teacher reasoned with me, but I simply shook my head.

"... How about this?"

I took out my magic measurement tool. My personal one, at the size of a palm.

"That's… a magic measurement tool… But a smaller one."

"Please keep this a secret."

I looked at her seriously, and she nodded seriously as well. I placed my finger on it, and the number finally showed up.

Her eyes grew wide as her mouth started to drool on the table.

"W-W-W-T-Th-That's…"

A pretty normal reaction for someone like her...

"Teacher…"

The teacher quickly shook her head.

"I'm fine! I'm writing it down..."

"Don't write it down."

The teacher let out a sigh, and she decided to think of a way to bargain.

"Then, I'll just score you a ten. Because any growth would be meaningless since you're already at that point..."

"Thank you. And thank you so much for understanding."

I told the teacher while bowing slightly, and she nodded at me before writing notes on her book. I didn't really see what she's writing, but I can only trust that she won't write my magic points count.

The students seemed to be confused and curious about the result, but I have no intention of letting them know anything.

"Okay. You may return to your seat. But, maybe after this class, come with me to my room. We shall... check out the rest there!"

"… Okay?"

I turned around and headed back to the seat, hoping she would forget what she had told me. Everyone else looked at me questioning a lot of things, but I ignored them. I sat down and placed my foot on the table again, my favorite position.

The teacher continued with the calling, and after making sure all the students were present, she continued with the class.

"Today, I wanted to start by telling you guys about the details on the mid-semester tests."

"Teacher. We already know about that."

The class president, Elmone, suddenly lifted his hand and spoke out. The teacher looked confused.

"Huh? From who?"

"The teacher from the Magic Technology class already told us about it."

"Ohhhh… I see. Then, I shall get into the details."

The teacher then took out a paper and started telling what she had written.

"Regarding the first test, the magical capabilities test. It will be handed fully to us, the magic aptitude class teachers. Because it is up to us whether or not you can do an ability or not. And that is why starting from now on, I am going to be focusing more on that."

She then slammed the paper to the table.

"Then, let's waste no time! Everyone, let's head to the back court!"

""What??""
