Chapter 51

It's been a month since Miranda and Ben's wedding now and things have been steadily changing as always around here. For starters unfortunately Adele died and Richard's been really down about it which is to be expected, but on the bright side Jackson and I have told everyone we're engaged and today is Derek's first day back as a surgeon.

"Liliana, where have you been? I've called you like a million times." Derek asks me as I'm scrubbing out from surgery.

"If you can't tell I'm just getting done with surgery. What do you need?" I ask.

"The lawyer called, they need us at the courthouse now."

"Okay, I just need to go change real quick." I say before running to the locker to change out of my scrubs and texting Jackson to tell him where I'm going, before leaving. I knew there was a possibility that the judge could make his decision today, but I honestly didn't think that he would this soon.

"Did I miss it?" Callie asks us rushing into the courtroom. "Damn it. I'm sorry. I got out of the O.R. as fast as I could, but I didn't think it was gonna happen today. Oh, god. Was it bad?" She asks. Meredith and I shake our head no, surprising her.

"It wasn't." She frowns.

"We won." Arizona says.

"He said the airline company had a history of mechanical problems with the plane. It was in public record, and the hospital should've known. He found the hospital negligent." Derek says.

"So we won? When's he gonna tell us about the award? I mean I hate to be all about the money..." Callie smiles.

"He already did." Cristina says.

"He's giving us 15 million dollars." I say.

"Whoa." Callie says shocked.

"Each." Arizona adds. We all continued to sit there shocked waiting for our lawyer to join us.

"So what happens now. The hospital just hands us a check for 15 million dollars." Meredith asks our lawyer.

"Oh, well their insurance company does and it'll probably take some time to get through all the bureaucratic rigmarole, but, yeah pending appeal, the insurance company will issue each of you a big check." She explains.

"In the meantime, I have a ping pong ball to hit." Derek says standing up.

"Yeah, I have a surgery to get to." I say as we all stand up heading for the door.

"Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Why is everyone rushing off? This is a momentous event. Shouldn't we do something, like celebrate or okay, maybe "celebrate's", to strong a word. Dinner, we should have a dinner. Come on, we've been sitting in rooms with each other for months talking about this, and we just won. What's wrong with sitting in one more room with, with food in front of us." Callie pleads and we all reluctantly agree, before leaving to go back to the hospital. I was beyond relieved to be done with everything involving the plane crash, but it is going to take some time for me to take everything in.

"Hey baby, how did court go?" Jackson asks kissing me once he walks into the locker room where I'm getting dressed.

"We won, they're giving us 15 million dollars a piece." I say.

"Wow, that's great." He says excitedly.

"Yeah." I nod.

"You don't seem to excited."

"I am, it's just hard to wrap my head around it. I'm finally done dealing with this plane crash." I sigh.

"Well believe it, you can finally put that crash behind you." Jackson smiles wrapping his arm around me as we walk out of the locker room.

"Oh my Jesus." I say as I look towards the front desk.

"What?" He frowns.

"Your mother." I say causing him to notice the Catherine was standing by the desk and by the look on her face she wasn't happy.

"Hey mom." Jackson smiles as we walk over to her.

"Hey Catherine." I smile.

"Don't you two hi me. I fly down to Seattle to check on Richard and imagine my surprise when I find out you two are engaged and no one thought to tell me." She frowns.

"I'm so sorry. We meant to tell you, we've just been super busy lately." I try to explain, but I can tell my explanation isn't good enough for her.

"Both of you follow me." She says beginning to walk away as we follow her into an empty board room, closing the door behind us.

"Now even though I would've liked to have been told about the engagement by the both of you I'm not going to dwell on it, because I know now and I am happy for you two, but with that being said..." She says pulling out a folder.

"What's that?" I frown.

"I've had Mike Farris draw up some documents."

"Who's Mike Farris?" I ask.

"He's our attorney, for the Avery Foundation." Jackson explains.

"Protects our financial interests." Catherine says.

"Are you suggesting that I'm after Jackson's money." I say slightly raising my voice.

"Liliana, I like you, but I can't say for sure what you're after." She says.

"Hey, that's enough. You're not going to march in here and insult Lily's character." Jackson frowns.

"I'm just being realistic, you never know what someone is capable of for money."

"I have my own money, I'm not after Jackson's." I say.

"Wonderful, then you won't mind signing this prenuptial agreement." She says sliding the documents over to me.

"You know what, this meeting is over." I shake my head getting up and walking out of the conference room.

"Lily." I hear Jackson call, but I keep walking ignoring him. I'm not mad at him I'm just irritated at the moment and I don't want us to end up arguing just because I'm upset.

"Liliana." Jackson says finally catching up to me. "I'm so sorry baby, my mother had no right to approach you like that. You don't need to sign the prenup I'll go rip it up right now." He says.

"Jackson I'll sign it, I don't mind that. I'm marrying you, because I love you not for your money and it's not like we're going to get divorced, so it's just a piece a paper that's going to sit and collect dust. I just feel that a prenuptial agreement is something that we should've discussed and agreed on, not something she should've brought up. It isn't her place." I say.

"You're right and I couldn't agree with you more. Believe me I'm going to let her know she needs to back off."

"Okay." I sigh.

"Hey, don't let my mom get in your head. At the end of the day we're getting married and that's all that matters." He assures me.

"You're right." I smile.

"Of course I am." He smirks kissing me, before my pager goes off. "I gotta go." I say.

"Yeah me to, I have surgery with Robbin's. " He says kissing me again before we both leave for surgery. During surgery, my mind kept thinking back to Catherine. Even though she over stepped her boundaries, I want to make this right. She's going to be apart of my life for the rest of my life now that Jackson and I are getting married and we don't need to have disagreements like this, before the marriage has even started. I finish up surgery, then I leave to find Jackson as soon as I'm done.
