Chapter 50

"Dr. Garcia I'm so sorry I'm late. I know you hate late it's just..." Shane says as he walks over to me.

"You know what it's fine Shane. Things happen." I say.

"Are you sure?" He frowns.

"Yeah, just go get Mr. Thomas prepped for surgery." I smile.

"Yes ma'am." He smiles walking away

"Wow, someone's been in a good mood these past couple of days." Callie says.

"You know Callie, I'm just happy. I woke up this morning and the sun was shining, the birds were chirping, I had amazing sex, and I clipped an aneurysm and the day isn't even half way over, today's just going amazing." I smile. It's been a couple of days since Jackson and I got engaged and we still haven't told anyone, because I want to tell Derek before we tell everyone else, but I'm waiting until after his surgery, because that's what he needs to be focused on right now.

"Can we trade places please, I haven't had sex since before the plane crash." She sighs.

"You poor thing." I say, as Dr. Bailey walks over to us.

"Duh, duh, duh, duh." Callie sings.

"Don't." Dr. Bailey scoffs.

"Duh, duh, duh-duh Duh, duh, duh-duh, duh." Callie continues making Dr. Bailey begin to walk away. "All right, all right, all right I'll stop, I'll stop, jeez." Callie says getting Dr. Bailey to come back.

"When you two get to the wedding tomorrow, don't sit down, and tell Arizona not to sit down either." Dr. Bailey says.

"What do you mean don't sit down?" I ask.

"Just find a place and stand there."

"You want us to stand in the back? Then we won't be able to hear anything." Callie says.

"Stand in the damn front." Dr. Bailey says.

"And block everyone's view?" I frown.

"Just pick a spot. You know, it's not complicated, ugh. You know, people allow you to open them up with a knife, if they knew you couldn't follow a simple instruction they would run like the wind from this place." Dr. Bailey fusses.

"Are you, are you trying to say would you do me the honor of being my bridesmaids?" Callie asks

"Does the whole thing have to be about you two. Just put on a dress and don't sit down." Dr. Bailey says.

"Aww, we're bridesmaids." I smile.

"Oh, don't even." Dr. Bailey's says as Callie hugs her making me laugh "This is what I was trying to avoid."

"Well you two keep talking about the wedding, I have to go to surgery." I say before walking away and going to my patients room to make sure Shane's prepped him properly then taking him to the OR and getting scrubbed in. Surgery takes around 5 hours and when I finish I go to find Jackson so I can see how his consultation with Derek and his sister went.

"Hey baby." I smile.

"Hey." He says kissing me.

"How did your meeting with Derek go?" I ask.

"Umm not so good, it turns out Lizzie's calf's are a little shorter then we expected, so to do the surgery we'll have to remove a piece of nerve from both legs, but Derek is against that, so now he doesn't want to have the surgery." Jackson explains.

"Then we have to change his mind." I say.

"Meredith's working on it."

"Okay." I nod.

"When's you're next surgery?" He asks.

"An hour, why?" I smile.

"You know why?" He smiles, taking my hand and leading me to a on call room so we can enjoy each others company. Once we finish up it's time for my surgery, so I rush to the OR to operate and once I'm done it's time to go home.

"So did Meredith get Derek to agree to the surgery again?" I ask as we lay in bed that night.

"Yeah." Jackson nods kissing me and trying to take off my shirt before I stop him.

"Avery not tonight, you need to be well rested. You're operating on my best friends hand tomorrow." I say.

"Come on, I'll be quick."

"No, now get some rest. Goodnight." I say closing my eyes.

"Really." He sighs.

"This hurts me more then it hurts you." I chuckle.

"No it doesn't." He frowns.

"I know." I laugh, before we fall asleep. We wake up the next morning and get ready for work, before going to the hospital. "I don't have any surgeries today I'm just watching Derek's surgery from the gallery and then I have to leave for Bailey's wedding. I go check in on Derek before Jackson and Callie take him to the OR. Meredith goes to the other OR where Jackson is operating on Lizzie to make sure nothing goes wrong and I sit in the gallery where Callie is operating on Derek.

"Callie." I say over the intercom that goes into the OR.

"Yes, Garcia?" She says.

"I just want to let you know, I'm watching closely the whole time. No mistakes." I say.

"That's the plan, now do I have your permission to begin operating?" She jokes.

"Yep." I answer sitting back down as she begins to operate. Surgery takes a couple of hours and once it's finished Derek is taken to recovery and Callie says it couldn't have went better. We go check on him, before going to the locker room to get dressed for the wedding.

"You look so handsome." I smile as I tie Jackson's tie.

"Thank you, beautiful." Jackson smiles pulling me into a kiss.

"Get a room." Alex jokes.

"Shut up." I laugh. Once Jackson and I are both ready I go to check on Derek again before we leave.

"Are you sure you don't want me to stay? I mean I don't mind." I say.

"Go have fun, I'm fine." He says.

"Are you sure? You're not in any pain or anything because if you are..." I say.

"Avery, tell her I'm fine." Derek says.

"Baby, surgery went great. He's fine, now let's go before we're late." Jackson says taking my hand and leading me towards the door.

"I'll be back as soon as the weddings over." I say before we leave.

"You know pretty soon it's going to be you and I getting married." Jackson smiles as we drive to the wedding.

"I still say we can just elope. It's quick and simple." I shrug.

"Well aren't you romantic." He laughs.

"I'm just saying, I'm not really into the whole big wedding thing." I say.

"It doesn't have to be big. It can be small and simple, but we're having a wedding. I want our friends and family to be there, when I get to marry you and become the luckiest guy in the world." He says making me smile.
