CHAPTER 1.4: Prophecy
"A little bird told me that you fired two researchers today. Can you please tell me what happened?" All I want is to finish all the paperwork that is on my desk peacefully, but why is this guy here? Is it so hard for me to get peace for one day? He is basically here in my office annoying me every single day.
"Yes, I fire those girls. Nothing more, nothing less. Now, can you please leave? I'm trying to finish these before my next appointment." Marcus Archeyus, I have known him since childhood. Apart from my mother, he is a person that I trust the most, and he is also beside me whenever I cried silently from the heavy burden of expectation that those people put on me. He knows more about me than how I know myself.
"Come on now, Andrea. You know me better than anyone. You know that I won't stop interrogating you until you tell me what exactly happened. You don't just fire anybody for no reason. Besides, you're indifferent towards other people." He may be wrong about what he just said, but I don't wanna waste my breath telling him the whole story. Then again, he won't leave until I tell him.
"Fine. But please, promise me that you won't bother me for the rest of the day. I really need to finish this paperwork and the article that I'm trying to finish." I'm usually not the type to beg others, but Marcus is an exception. I am only begging him to not bother me just for today. If this was any other day, I would have tolerated him.
"Okay. Okay, I promise." Knowing what kind of personality he has, I find it hard to believe him, but it is better to tell him now rather than him bothering constantly every single minute. As I told him everything that happened, his expression started to change.
"They have the audacity to accuse you of that, and all you did is fire them? Andrea, I'm telling you, people who talk behind your back does not deserve such mercy." I am agape at what he just said. Aside from me, there is nobody else in the world who knows about Marcus' other personality, the cold-hearted and unmerciful personality. If only they know that their precious gentleman Marcus Archeyus is a man with a bad personality behind such a face.
"Marcus, I… I am used to people talking behind my back, and that has never brought me down. As you can see, I am still standing here and able to keep moving forward." He and my mother always make me feel like I am still a child that is still in need of protection. They both know that I can protect myself and there is no need for them to worry at all.
"Well, you shouldn't get used to that, Andrea. You're like a sister to me, and I know that you can protect yourself, but after what happened three years ago, you covered yourself with a thick wall. So unless you break the wall down yourself, then you can't stop me from being protective towards you." I can see the seriousness in his eyes, and I know he meant well for me. Just like what he feels towards me, I also think of him as my brother. However, I cannot do what he wants me to do. It is hard for me to break these walls. I lost control and who knows if I break these walls, I might lose control again and I might hurt someone dear to me. I do not want that to happen. If I lose a loved one, I might actually break down and lose myself in the process.
Before I can even say a word, my assistant informed me that Danielle Rowelry is here. I did not even realize that time went by this fast. She came at the right time. I did not want to keep continuing this conversation with Marcus because I know we are just gonna end up fighting and not talking for a long time. That kind of phase is not good either of us.
