Exploring - II

"It is.... But..." The man couldn't answer Maximillan's repeated questions.

In this land, the nobles were powerful and ruled over the weak. They took taxes from them and enjoyed their lives, but for commoners, it was their fate to survive. From the money they earned, they were paying taxes, buying foods, clothes and daily necessities and so on. They had nothing left to spend on fixing their habitat or to maintain basic hygiene. It was the job of the local lord to solve these small but deadly issues, but they were doing nothing.

"What...? Tell me whose job is this?" asked Philip in an irritated tone. It was just like what he had seen in Asian countries, like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and so on. Those countries were so called democratic means the people had elected someone to rule over them not like monarchy like here, but they were also doing nothing to improve the basic life of normal citizen. Govt. was spending money on paper, but in reality nothing was transpiring. Only the riches were getting richer and poor people were getting poorer.

"Philip, I think your quest was to just observe, not change." said Lyson inside his brain.

"What?"

"Just observe. We will talk about it later. Bye."

"That's..." The man had no answer. He knew the local lords were doing nothing, as it was their duty to begin with.

"Leave it. I will talk about this with the duke."

With no knowledge of the bigger picture, it would do more harm than any good if he just started fighting over what's right & wrong. First, he had to understand what was going on & the system was the answer.

"Yes, Lord."

"We should get back then."

"Sure Lord."

***

"Lyson, why don't tell me what's really going on here?"

"Well, will you be handle all that?"

"I have handled more horrific things than you think. How bad do you think will it go?"

"I don't have a choice, then. Don't tell me I didn't warn you."

"Sure, it's on me."

"Very well."

"200 years ago this empire was formed & 4 most powerful houses, namely Ilysium, Lexius, Arlet, & Carlston were there to operate the empire. So the entire country was divided into 4 states, each house controlling one & a contract named Trinity was formed where basically each house provided something unique to the empire & helped it grow. Lexius handled the Security, Arlet handled economy & Carlston manged the food production."

"Ok then..."

"A Civil War is coming & if you do nothing then everyone is going to die, including you."

"What...? We were talking about how this country is divided, not how a civil war is going to break out & how in the world I am going to do anything to stop it?"

Philip knew what a civil war was & how devastating it could be, but what more he could do to stop it? He still was not sure about his own existence & now this. At the very least, he had to learn about this country here he was in & the helping hand was this system, but it was not doing its intended job.

"It's beyond my control, you know. It is inevitable & you are here to stop it." replied Lyson in a flat tone.

"Yeah, whatever. At least tell me what are you?" asked Philip with a sigh. If some war was coming & he was her to stop it, then he would. Otherwise he would also die, doing nothing & he was not someone who would let go without a fight.

"Like I said, I am an omnificent..."

"I know, I know & you being a God isn't helping. Just tell me what the fuck are you & why are you with me so we can move on to do something?" .

"You mere mortal, you won't..."

"Shut up. And why this thing doesn't have a mute button?" replied Philip in an irritated tone, frantically searching for a button on the screen before him.

"Hey, hey stop that, you can't subdue me...."

"Oh Yeah, just you wait,"

"Ok, that's enough." shouted Lyson & the screen before Philip disappeared in an instant.

"What the..."

"Now Listen to me, I am a system created by the God himself & sent here to help you save this country. And you are going to save this country. Now read this."

And the screen once again opened in front of Philip, showing the info.

"This is your Job & you have to complete it at any cost. I am Lyson, the omnificent system who knows anything & everything. With my help you will save this country & if you don't everyone will die, including you. Don't think about anyone, just think for yourself. We have a lot to do, so stop whining like a kid."

"I...I... don't..." Philip tried to say something, but the system spoke again, cutting off his words.

"I will provide you quest or, in other words, tasks which will help you get a better understanding about the man named Maximillain & this country. Also, you will get points upon successfully completing a quest which can be further used for various purposes."

"Are we clear?" asked Lyson in a heavy tone.

"Yes." said Philip, nodding his head. For the first time, he understood what this system was. It was just like any game mechanics where he had to just complete the provided task & he would get points.

And then the screen beeped & a new task was shown.

----------------------------------------

Current Task - Visit the Library & learn about the region.

Points - 5

----------------------------------------

"You want me to go to the library & read books?" asked Philip with a deadpan look in his eyes. He had never been a fan of books or educational material & now someone was telling him to go read it.

"Yes & you will do it. No questions asked."

"Can't you just tell me? You are someone who knows anything & everything. What's the point of you being here if you will not help me with anything?"

"I am helping you, child. Just listen to what I am saying & everything will be fine, otherwise your life is going to get fucked very soon." And once again, the screen disappeared before Philip.

"At least tell me where is the library..."

"What is going on...?" said Philip, massaging his forehead.

Things were getting messy, one after another. Now he was a duke's son about whom he had no memories of & now he had to save this empire from a civil war. Anyone would love to do this shitty work after dying.

No, no one would. He was stuck here & someone whom he had never met called Lyson was threatening him to do some weird shit or they would all die.

And with no choice left, Philip got up from his bed & made his way towards the library but soon got lost. But to his luck found a house servant who helped to get there.

So let's skip the part where he fell down three times from the ladder in search of books. One time hit his toe on the table & finally he found nothing as he did not know what to even look for.

Next chapter will be in 4 hours.
