After spending the night alone with Adela, Berengar could tell that the woman was more happy than she had been in a long time. Though Adela loved her kids more than anything, she had always lamented the fact that their father had never taken as much as an interest in them as he had done for his other offspring.
Not to mention the fact that Berengar had not been the most loving husband to Adela. In fact, the majority of the time she was even able to be intimate with the man was when she joined him and his sister for nighttime activities.
