Chapter 5

"Hey, that's tricky." Jill stated playfully, but his mind was obviously analyzing the words he just heard.

'I died once'?

What does he even mean by the word died? In what way? It was obviously not literal because he's here, alive and kicking, so in what way did he die? But because that specific idea is too tiring to analyze and think through, Jill decided to just proceed on to the next phrase.

'I never killed anyone' seemed like a plausible fact. He then turned to look at Chess, taking his appearance and behavior into account, before making his conclusion.

He didn't look like someone who killed or kills anyone, so maybe the third was a fact. That leaves the first and the second. The first was completely out of the question, since it's the most normal among the choices, so the lie must be the second.

"The second one?" he answered unsurely.

Kane, in contrary, rubbed his chin before staring at our class rep with his deep gaze.

He then asked, "Are you sure you stated two facts?"

Our class rep, Chess, nodded his head in return, pushing Kane into a deep thought. The simple guessing game suddenly turned into a battle of in-depth thinking and comprehension skills. Which was the lie? The second or the third?

The second is not clear, so they can't tell for sure if it is a fact or not, while the third one was the tricky one. They just met today, so they really don't know his personality. There's even a saying 'you can't judge a book by its cover', so they also can't depend on his looks.

He do look innocent and clueless, but since he was included in this class, then maybe there's something more to it, just like with Aoi's case. Maybe he did kill someone before and the people on the board found out about it, so he was dumped here with them.

But if that is really the case, then why did the board allow him into their precious Section 1? On the other hand, if he didn't really kill anyone before, if he really is just an innocent kid, then why is he here?

Prof was thinking the same. He knows his students very well now after spending three whole years watching them. Now is the fourth, and probably the last, year that he can see these familiar faces in the four corners of this room. He witnessed many unexpected progresses in this class.

The first time Aoi stepped inside this room, everyone thought he was weak and fragile, but after observing him for how many weeks, he realized that the kid isn't frail at all.

Each and every one of them here had already been tainted by darkness, either since birth or while growing. Everyone had secrets to keep so the bond between them is undeniably strong. What were the higher ups thinking, sending an innocent child here? But that is if he's really just an innocent child…

Before anyone could make a final guess, a foreign voice floated over, making them stop from thinking.

"Stupid idiots. The first one was the lie."

Who was it? Who called them stupid and idiots?

They all turned to look at the direction where the voice came from and their gazes landed on the person sleeping on the couch. That person then slowly opened his eyes, his lazy gaze landing on the ceiling. He yawned, but even the yawn was looking unfairly eye-catching.

He slowly lifted his body and made himself sit on the couch, his head with a bunch of dark messy hair, making him look like a badass prince.

He then turned to look at Chess.

"Isn't it?" His voice was slightly hoarse, very compatible with his groggy look.

"I looked through his data and it was stated there that he is an orphan." A new voice floated over.

Everyone turned to look at the corner, their eyes landing on Cale. He finally decided to take his eyes off his computer and threw a look at them.

Everyone started changing glances from Syn to Cale, then Cale to Syn. The two most uninterested person in the world took an interest in guessing a lie. Professor clapped his hands in glee, celebrating the participation of his most troublesome students. Their class rep is awesome, he silently praised.

"The data stated he's an orphan… but did it say it was since birth?" Syn countered, throwing Cale a glance.

Jill and Aoi widened their mouths while Kane only nodded his head as if they were enlightened. Reis, on the other hand, just smirked, playing with the tip of Aoi's hair with his fingers. He had a hunch, but he wasn't sure so he decided to just keep his mouth shut. But now that Syn confirmed it, he finally reached the same conclusion as the professor.

This kid is no ordinary.

Even though the thing about not killing anyone is a fact, that doesn't change the possibility of him being just like them. Someone who is tainted… someone who is twisted.

"Then, what do you mean by you died once?" Jill asked the first question after finally knowing the lie. He wanted to know what he meant by he 'died' because he just can't help being curious.

But before Chess could even open his lips to answer, Prof had already interrupted. He stood straight before pointing towards Cale and Syn.

"Enough with our little class rep! Let's talk about Cale and Syn!" he was clearly diverting their attention away from Chess.

'If they learn the secret now, what fun would be left? It was better to leave it for the next time...' Prof grinned.

"That's right! Haha! I can finally figure out your dirty little secrets! Bring it on!" Jill suddenly sounded like the Professor, clearly fired up with the thought of trashing those two.

But just when he was only starting to get enthusiastic, Cale suddenly started typing on his keyboard.

A second later, he started moving his lips along with his fingers, slightly tilting the screen to reach their views.

It was a CCTV footage. He then arched his brow towards Jill.

"Guess who; the other day, someone accidentally stepped on a pack of cigarette while dancing to the rhythm of a music, then acted clueless afterwards. He also played with a scissors previously and accidentally trimmed a certain sleeping person's hair. Then just recently, he was tasked to do a job but he passed it on to another person. Who do you think is he?"

After saying all those words, Cale tilted the screen back to its original place before landing a final tap on the keyboard. He then stood up from his seat and started walking towards the door, waving his hand lazily before stepping out.

While he was enjoying the fresh air outside, a certain someone was starting to sweat gallons inside the room.

It was no other than Jill.

He glanced sideways, avoiding the piercing gazes of the other people in the room. Reis lifted his hand and caressed his braided hair while staring at Jill intensely, Aoi was staring at him too, muttering to himself. On the other hand, a different kind of coldness can be felt right beside him.

He didn't dare to take a look and instead just whistled, feigning ignorance. Kane's lips twitched. He then lifted his hand and pulled one of Jill's ear.

"Ouch! Wait, ouch, that hurts!"

But Kane didn't stop, not until Jill's entire face finally turned red. He glared at Kane, not noticing the approach of someone even deadlier. He just realized the danger of that someone when he felt an arm wrapping around his neck.

"You know, baby… Accidentally trimming my hair was alright." Jill had goosebumps upon hearing the endearment that Reis used to address him. He also used his seductive voice, completely causing Jill to freeze on the spot. "But passing your work on to someone else is another story… so! How do you like to be punished?"

Noooooo! Jill wanted to scream those words, but the pressure around his neck suddenly tightened. He grabbed Reis' arm and tried pulling it away, but it was to no avail. The arm lock around his neck tightened by each second, causing him to choke on his own saliva.

Aoi, who was watching, laughed at the sight of Jill. He cheered for him, clearly enjoying the sight.

Prof watched by the side, displaying a gentle smile which caught our class rep's attention. Chess stared at the look on the professor's face.

'So, he can smile like that too?'

Chess then turned towards the four people in front of him. They were laughing and trashing each other, but the way they look at one other was full of acknowledgement, entirely different from the way they look at him. Our class rep may be sometimes clueless, but he isn't as ignorant of his surroundings as how you assumed.

Right from the start, when he first made a step inside this room, up until now, he can feel the doubts in their eyes when they look at him. He can feel them observing his every movements and expressions, seemingly waiting for him to make just one wrong move.

Even though he don't know a thing about this class, that doesn't affect his capability to assess the situation.

He started collecting the information he got ever since he arrived here. From when he was talking with the Professor, up until the end of their little guessing game. With all the information in place, he finally reached a vague conclusion. He finally had an image of what kind of class the Section 0 is.

With that thought in mind, no one noticed the change in his eyes. Even the Professor, who was eager of finding something worth gossiping about, didn't detect any changes when he glanced at Chess for a short while.

Aside from the change in our class rep's eyes, the curve on his lips also looked extremely different.

Somehow, his smile this time… had a hint of darkness.
