Rook City X Time Resumes

Chapter Thirteen: Rook City X Time Resumes

Under the moonlit sky, the view was undeniably breathtaking.

It was Rook City.

There was an endless array of high-rise buildings, their lights twinkling like starts on earth.

Everywhere seemed as lively as day - cars and other vehicles cluttering the roads, establishments and companies still open and providing services, and people going about their businesses.

Of course many were asleep but there seemed to be almost just as many who were nightcrawlers.

At the far North-West (when standing at the city gate where Hudson currently was) of this beautiful civilization was a cluster of six awe-inspiring structures.

They made all other high-rise structures look like kowtowing descendants with their impressive heights that seemed to pierce the sky.

Even from where he stood, Hudson could not see their top, and mind you it was a cloudless night!

When he finally broke out of his reverie, he wondered; "Where to go now?"

He had little time left of his current state and it would be less than ideal to be hounded by those stationed at the gates for security.

Surely the personnel placed in charge of maintaining law and order in such a society where Superpowers are everywhere could not be so simple. They most be more than ordinary people or be equipped with more than ordinary means.

When he had turned around to pick up the nurse's personal effects, he had already considered this situation and hence tried to find out her house address. However, he could not.

He had tried scanning her phone for the information but to his disappointment, after the phone clicked open with her fingerprint, he found its slow reaction speed (from his perspective) was too much too bear.

He could not remain in the mode that gave him his enhanced speed, strength, and other attributes, forever after all.

There was a bank card which probably had money on it and could be used to book a night at a hotel or something, but how would he do that?

Time would have resumed (from his perspective) for him to interact with the receptionists.

"Ah!!! What to do? What to do? What to do?!!!" He yelled in frustration as he wondered how to proceed from this point.

Looking down at the nurse, who appeared to be looking up at him, he sighed and spat a cuss; "Well fuck! I had hoped to take her home so she could be in a familiar environment for us to talk. I suppose that idea is out the window now. Sigh. Forget it, I'll just go with an open space where there is fresh air and she won't feel trapped."

After saying his peice, he made his way to the nearest high-rise building he could find and made his way to its rooftop.

Exhaling deeply as he looked down at the view from up there, he prepared to undo the technique.

[I would advise you to grab some clothes and footwear first.] Kaidos shut him down before he could even start to speak.

"Eh? What why?" Hudson did not understand. "First it was abducting the nurse, and you made me see reason for that. Don't tell me you want me to become a theif now too? I have no desire for this one!"

[Suit yourself then. Once friction takes effect and the both of you end up standing before each other in your birthday outfits, I want to witness how you would convince her that you are not some superpowered rapist.] Kaidos replied casually like he was asking the waitress for an extra serving of tofu.

"Oh, I didn't think of that." Hudson admitted. "Sorry. I kind of lost it for a moment there." He apologized to his sentient bloodline.

[No worries.] Kaidos readily accepted.

"Mm. Now that you mention it, I understand that you would not let me use a technique that could permanently harm me, so my skin must be somehow able to resist air friction unlike my clothes but what about her?"

"Her ability is related to her perception and that does not affect her physique. I haven't killed her, right? She won't suddenly combust once friction takes its effect, right?"

[You do not have to worry about that. You have been subconsciously shielding both yourself and her with Qi this entire time.]

"For real? I have?" He checked and saw that that was indeed the case. "Well, wow. Ok."

Without thinking further, he set Felicity to stand up like a statue on that rooftop before going down into the building (it was a residential one with lots of apartments) to grab some clothes he believed would fit both of them.

Of course their underwear would probably also go "bye-bye", so he had to rob the nearest store that had such commodities with a sigh.

When he came back, he could already feel the technique's duration ending.

He was still on the stairs when time resumed for him.

"Well, here goes nothing."

Meanwhile, back at the Mortal Rook Penitentiary, there was a sonic boom and alarms went off.

The whole place was thrown into chaos as everywhere that Hudson had ran past or applied pressure to was damaged.

Doors fell off their hinges, walls had cracks suddenly appear on them, furniture like tables got destroyed, and more.

Luckily there was not enough damage done to create room for Mortal grade prisoners to escape.

All those who were incarcerated there had the weakest of abilities - as evident by the fact that regular handcuffs was enough to restrain them.

Although no one escaped, and nothing ridiculously expensive was damaged, there was still an annoyed and troubled Warden.

A nurse and an inmate had disappeared under his watch.

From the preliminary investigation, all fingers pointed towards a Speedster.

He had a lot of thoughts but at the moment he could only send word to the Towers.

He had a direct line to at least one important figure in all of them so he chose the one with the best Speedster (of heroic alignment) of Rook City on its roster.
