“Come on, we have work to do.”
“I’ve never built a bench,” he said as we crossed to the two-by-fours I’d brought.
“It’s not hard, especially if we aren’t going for anything too fancy. Which I don’t think we need to do. I want them to be easy to move.”
Emmett laughed. “Christ, yes. There are some high school kids that will help with the set changes, but I don’t need a disaster on my hands.”
“We’ll go for simple, then. These things braced with supports and four legs. Sound good?”
“Perfect.”
We set to work. Emmett measured the two-by-fours as I picked out the choice pieces. One by one, I hauled them to the truck, where I’d brought a portable circular saw. I thought it would be easier to leave it outside. Not only would that cut down on the mess, but I could use the truck bed as a brace.
