Chapter 77
This conversation had occupied us through the soup and salad. Our entrées arrived, and we ate in relative silence for a while. Charles and our hosts agreed that I should be taken to Durgin Park for dinner on Saturday night, telling me only that it was an experience I would never forget. Leaving the restaurant, we strolled back to the townhouse, where we changed into more casual attire and joined our hosts in their study for a nightcap. They declined an invitation to join us for an early-morning run, as they wanted to sleep late. Charles gave them his cell phone number, saying that he’d carry it with us on the Freedom Trail in the morning, in case they needed to reach us concerning the contractor. We were in bed asleep well before midnight.
