CHAPTER 16 : Unfavorable Situation

"What are you guys doing?!  You can't just bring people's children.  Where's the warrant?!"

 "Dev!"

Devan exploded.  The innocence tabble he pounded hard as he rose to challenge the two uniformed men in front of them.  Suddenly, Ivan also got up to calm his twin.

"We have a warrant, if necessary we can show it."  Said one of the two men.

 "Show me!"  Dean insisted.

As Devan wished, one of the two policemen reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper from inside.  But just as he was about to give the paper to Devan, Deandra's sudden rise and that young man's words stopped them.

"No need sir.  I'm go with you."

Of course, the decision that Deandra made unilaterally made Devan even more angry.

"Dean!  I know you're an idiot but no..." Devan's sentence was cut off, just as Dean suddenly tapped his shoulder and whispered something.

"Check your phone."  Dean really made sure only Devan could hear him.

Less than ten seconds later, Dean was actually led away from the cafeteria.  Passing through the crowd of students  who automatically split when they approached.  Leaving Ivan who was confused by the situation, and Devan who suddenly became silent and instead held his twin's hand.

"Van, come with me!"  Devan whispered sharply.  Then pulled Ivan in the opposite direction to the departure of Deandra.

The whole school was in an uproar.  Almost all the students crammed into the courtyards and upstairs balconies only to watch one of their friends being led into a police car.  Among them, there was Amelia.

The girl still couldn't believe what had happened.  Even though Dean had met her eyes when that young man passed with two policemen behind him.

Amelia looked from the second floor balcony.  She wanted to stop the car from moving and take Deandra away.  But at the same time Amel also realized that she did not have the ability to do so.  The only thing she could do was stand still and watch.

"That's Deandra, from SAINS 2, right?  Why did the police take him like that?"

 "You don't know?"

Two female students on the left side gossiping.  Suddenly Amel strained her ears to listen carefully.

"They said the guy in the viral video was Deandra.  But i think it does look like him."

Surprise made Amelia's eyes widen.  Even though she didn't know what viral video the two girls were referring to, that information was enough for her to know the reason why the police came to the school just to arrest Deandra.  Suddenly, Amel knew what she had to do now.

Two young non-identical twins wore surprised faces that looked similar for some reason.  Devan gripped the phone tightly in his hand.  While Ivan looks still can't believe what he just heard.

"Dean sent that?  But when?"  Ivan asked in a doubtful tone.

"Maybe he's on a timer.  The message just arrived now.  But maybe he sent it a few hours ago or even last night."  Devan even had a hard time believing his own words.

But what they are talking about now is Deandra.  If it was Dean, then it wouldn't be strange if the young man had already predicted and prepared everything.

"That kid is scary."  Devan spoke in a mumble.

Ivan nodded in approval of his brother's words.  Inside the men's restroom on the first floor, they had listened to a voice message whose contents would shock everyone if they were to spread it.

"But why did Dean send this to me?  Does this have any connect with the reason the police arrested him?"  Devan's mind monologued.

"What should we do now?"  Ivan's question broke Devan's thoughts.

Devan could not immediately answer Ivan's question because he himself did not know what to do with the voice message from Deandra.  In the end they stepped out of the men's restroom with angry faces.

 "Ivan!  Devan!  Here you are!"

Before they left the men's restroom, Ivan and Devan were stopped by Amel who called out from behind them.  When the two brothers turned around they could see how Amel was running as hard as he could towards them.

"There's something I need to show you."  Amel said in between gasping breaths.

Without wanting to wait for her breathing to return to normal, Amel immediately took out her cellphone from her pocket and then opened one of the social media that she had.  There, opened a video that has been viewed more than a million times and shared by more than ten thousand people.

 "I am pregnant."

 "Bufftt!!  What do you mean?!"

 "Three weeks late."

The girl speaking in the video is Erika.  Her face can be seen clearly from the angle of the camera that recorded this video.  Instead, the young man's face was not visible.  But the voice that sounded there was so familiar.

"That's Deandra, right?"  guessed Ivan while putting on a confused face.

"Are you sure this isn't an edit?"  Amel looks just as worried as them.  It was obvious the girl was trying to believe this wasn't real.

"This is not an edit."  Unfortunately, Devan's answer that was so firm made Amelia disappointed.

Amel could feel the pain running through her chest.  The heart that originally wanted to deny the truth of people's rumors about Deandra now hesitated.  Should she believe what they say?

"Where is this video from?"  this time it was Devan who asked while turning to Amel.

"Someone uploaded this video on their account yesterday.  He said he was at the cafe where Dean and Erika chatted the night before Erika killed herself."  Amel spoke at length.

"No.  Dean and Erika weren't even close until that night."  Ivan was still trying to deny it.

The three of them were trapped in confusion.  But the situation became clear now.  Deandra is suspected of being Erika's lover.  Erika's pregnancy and how the girl ended up committing suicide, the police want to pass all the blame on Deandra with a short video that doesn't even last thirty seconds.

Ivan and Devan thought hard on the same frequency.  How will they help Deandra get out of this trapping situation?  Then a second later, a bell rang loudly in their ears.  Making these two non-identical twins roll their eyes together.

"Oh!  So that's what the voicemail was for!"  they cried out in their minds as they looked at each other.  suddenly, Ivan and Devan get enlightened.

Ivan immediately turned around.  Then he held both of Amel's shoulders with both of his hands and the confidence that appeared in his eyes.

"Amel!  I hope you calm down.  What actually happens is not what you think.  Wait here and stay positive.  Okay?"  he said.

Responding to Ivan's sudden attitude, Amel could only nod awkwardly while blinking in confusion.  Meanwhile Devan had already left.

 "Van hurry!"  He called.

Ivan immediately left Amel without saying anything else.  The two twins ran hastily through the school hallway towards the main fence.

"I've contacted Mr. Budi."  Ivan was busy fiddling with his cell phone in front of the fence.

"He's coming in five minutes." Say him again.

As Ivan said, not more than five minutes later a black car parked itself right in front of the school fence.  After a little chat with security, in the end Mr. Budi – the family driver, managed to convince security to let his two young masters out.

"Where are we going, sir?"  asked the middle-aged man after returning to the driver's seat.

"Police station!  Hurry up!"  Ivan answered while hastily fastening his seatbelt.

Meanwhile, on his side, Devan seemed busy fiddling with his cellphone until finally Ivan had to put on a seat belt for his brother.

"Mommy can be furious if she finds out you're not wearing a seatbelt in the car."  Ivan grumbled.

Devan glanced at him for a moment.  Can't understand Ivan's slightly exaggerated attitude, but also can't be too surprised because that's the nature of his twin brother.

After Ivan back to sat quietly, Devan was busy with his own cell phone again.  While the car drove through the busy streets.  Ivan looked so worried that he subconsciously bit his thumb nail, and somehow Devan had been noticed.

"Van, you'll get hurt."  Dev warns.  Although his own gaze is still fixed on the phone screen.

"Oh… I didn't realize."  Ivan spoke softly as he took his hand away from his own mouth.

"Just calm down.  Dean must be fine."  This time Devan spoke in a very cold tone.

Hearing his twin's words calmed Ivan's heart a little.  But still, not entirely.  In the end he chose to look out the car window.  Trying to calm down by looking at the crowds of the city moving past them like an old movie line.

"You think the police want to listen to high school kids like us?  What if they don't want to hear?"  Ivan asked quietly.

"Obviously they don't want to hear."  Devan said coldly.

Responding to Devan's words, Ivan took a deep breath.  He was starting to feel that what they were going to do was pointless.  But Devan felt something different.  He wouldn't make their driver go the extra mile for nothing.

"But there's no way they didn't listen to 'him'."

Devan's words this time attracted Ivan's attention to turn towards him.  At the same time, Devan actually showed Ivan the screen of his cellphone – which seemed to be making a phone call.

"Are you sure you want to ask 'him' for help?"  Ivan gave Devan a doubtful look.  Especially after he saw the name listed on the cellphone.

Dean pulled his phone back.  Even though his face kept a straight expression, the heavy sighs that came out of this young man's mouth couldn't fool anyone in the car.

"We have no choice.  As you said earlier, we're just high school kids."  Devan groaned.

Ivan and Mr.Budi looked at each other through the rearview mirror of the car.  Made sure that they thought the same thing, and agreed not to comment on Devan's actions this time.  Because they are the ones who know best –

"Hello?  Hahaha!  Will there be a thunderstorm today?"

 – How much Devan hates dealing with the person on the other end of the phone.
