Chapter 2: the walk

**** third-person P.O.V., next morning

** raise and shine, maggot. look it's a new day with a new beginning. ** steve squirmed on the bed while covering himself with the sheets as the watch on his hand started singing a weird song.

" Just shut up for 5 more mins, will you? let me enjoy my sleep as long as I can before I lost the ability to sleep because of joining the tera academy." steve complaint as he groaned while the birds started to play on the window that he left open last night.

After a few minutes, he finally got resolved to rise from the bed as he removed the sheet over him, he massaged his eyes as he yawned and got into a sitting position with the help of the hand.

"sadly, I have to sleep while wearing the watch because I can't remove it.", steve muttered to himself while walking toward the toilet to freshen up.

After sometime later, he returned to the room and walked towards the opened window to the obverse the outside. he leaned to observe that he was on the fourth floor of a building in a residential area. pedestrians were walking on the sides of the road while a few vehicles traveled through the road. he closed the window after he was done getting a feel of the surroundings.

He opened the closet in the room to find 5-6 sets of casual clothes and 2 sets of uniforms. he grabbed one of the casual sets and put it on the bed before moving into the bathroom.

Steve checked himself in the mirror to confirm if he looked alright and then checked the time on his phone. After nodding at himself in the mirror, he exited the room and l locked it with the key that he found inside the room after a little search.

Moving on he entered the elevator and pressed the button for the ground floor, he felt blessed that language was the same in both worlds. he operated his mobile to pass the time as the elevator moved between floors. today's objective was to stroll around the place to get a feel about the people and the town.

After reaching the ground floor, Steve found the owner of the whole apartment sweeping the floor, she was a lady in her late 40s. According to the memories of the past owner of this body, she was a kind-hearted lady that earns her living from renting this apartment but Steve thinks differently, she must have different routes of income too because the apartment was not fully rented at all times like how the room below his own in not rented currently otherwise with all the noise that he made by falling would have alerted the tenant living in that room.

" good morning, miss Agatha. you could have told me to do it, won't your back hurt if you do it yourself?" he asked her as walk towards her.

"How could I ask you to do it, dear? don't be silly. " she laughed heartedly as she kept sweeping the floor.

" well, I would happily do it if I get to eat your cooking in exchange every day. the pancakes that you made yesterday were really good." he praised her as he reached her beside her.

she still shook her head as she gave a gentle smile," my, I feel happy that you liked my cooking but let me do it. this is also a type of exercise that helps my blood run throughout my body. Now enough about my health and tell me, why you were dressed like that? it looks like you are going outside for a while, did you find a girlfriend or something?"

" no, no. im just going to get a feel of the whole town after all I will be visiting it a lot from now on. To be honest, I also looking for a job to pass the time doing something productive rather than spend my time just waiting for the 1st term to start." he told her as he looked at the whole apartment from the front.

" oh, that's commendable. Actually, I could help you with it if you like. I got a hiring advertisement with the newspaper today about a new restaurant that just opened a week ago. wait a minute, let me get it for you real quick. maybe you could look there first. " she told Steve as she put the broom beside the wall and returned to her room while waving him to wait for a bit.

Steve sighed at her behavior while smiling gently as he leaned against the same wall. after a minute or two, she returned with a paper advertisement and passed it to him.

he took it and said," thank you, man. I will definitely check it out and tell you if I were to able get it. now if you excuse me I would be going for the day. please take care of yourself. " he turned towards the road as she nodded and turned toward his destination for today which was commercial street situated on the north-east side of the town.

**** Steve P.O.V.

I'm becoming the center of attention as I walked on the road because I keep staring at people's heads as I walked but could they blame me, I think not. I had almost seen all the colors of the rainbow as people's hair color which was a relief for me as I won't be attracting attention because of my hair but I couldn't stop myself staring at every passerby on the street as I walked along on my route. I thought I had attracted enough attention at me as I stopped gawking at people so I could melt in the crowd.

the commercial street was full of people doing the basic grind, going from here to there trying to archive the goal that made them come here. the shops were pretty eccentric too. I saw shops from alchemy to weapon shop. you would think that having a weapon shop in the open would be weird as this was not some adventure focused era but while humans again gained control of this planet for the most part but that was only applicable against other intellectual races, meanwhile there was a lot of land and sea that were ruled by flora and fauna that too evolved after it got contracted with magica and thrived. there were still a lot of areas that humans had to claim again.

While this world didn't have an organization like an adventure guild but instead there exist small guilds that work with the military to reclaim land and gather resources and most of the members of such guilds were front-line warriors that are a sub-division of superhuman.

while heroes were beings that could wield miracles, front-line warriors were a group of people that possessed superpowers too but the level that they could utilize it couldn't do wonders as heroes could perform. So they need equipment that could help them survive the wild outside of the city and that's where these shops showed their worth.

these shops were used by front-liners to arm themselves and this town being home to so many soon-to-be heroes and front-liners made it a highly sought market for these types of Craftsman and alchemists. I came here to visit a craftsman that my master recommended to visit if I wanted to purchase a weapon in the future. I needed to buy a sword to practice sword mastery before I lose the bonus period.
